How did having Covid (not the vaccine) affect your ovulation/cycle?

I know that the vaccine has affected a lot of cycles; generally making them longer, although in my case making them much shorter...

I would like to know if having Covid itself has also had these effects?

No idea if it is connected but I had extremely heavy bleeding and clots on the first day I had symptoms. Like nothing I've had before.

Period didn't start for another 2 days properly.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 27/03/2022 19:14

Warning probs tmi:

For the first 6 weeks after covid I got my period every 2 weeks and sounds gross but it was much more red and liquidy. Like a bright red

Decaffe · 27/03/2022 19:16

Damn!

This is something I really don't need, then!

I was due on when I had covid but ended up being about a week late, right after I tested negative. I was late again the month after so I assumed it was an after effect of covid and I kept waiting, turns out it's pregnancy this time.

Decaffe · 27/03/2022 19:56

Aw that’s a happy ending!

A month after i have my second dose of Pfizer, i observed that i have more heavy periods and for 3 months, everytime i have my period, i almost collapsed...but now its back to normal...but my friend have a worse experience, she bled for half a year! Couple of months also after her second dose of the corona vaccine...my ob said its really common side effects
LoveYouHoneybear · 28/03/2022 06:09

Had my period for 10 days when I had covid! It's usually 6 days long. Also it was heavier than usual.

Whattodoniw · 28/03/2022 06:37

Never had a period for five months after first vaccine.

Totally messed up my cycles and they've not been the same since.

The ' bleed' itself has changed too: very bright, liquidy and very sporadic.

It's not fun.

clarkkentsglasses · 28/03/2022 06:40

No change at all after Covid and I'm unvaccinated.

Mummyme87 · 28/03/2022 07:01

Delayed my period by about 5days when I had covid. The vaccine did similar. Was only for one cycle.

RMS0209 · 28/03/2022 12:25

Hi,
I have 1 vaccine got it in June 2021
Caught covid Jan 2022

Jan 29 days (including 2 days spotting) then 7 days of period
I normally have 2 days light spotting then about 5 days period

February I had a 33 day cycle (32 & 32 spotting) then 6 days of AF.

March currently on day 30 and I had light spotting last night and some this morning when I wiped.

Bluelightbaby · 29/03/2022 00:27

No change at all after covid (currently got it for second time so we’ll see what happens after this time)
No change after any of the vaccines either

Decaffe · 29/03/2022 08:38

Sounds like having Covid means it could go either way then - terrible timing to be honest!

@Decaffe hope you get the "easier" version of symptoms!
It seems to have messed my cycles up a little but hopefully go back to normal again soon. X

lilrosemarie · 29/03/2022 11:24

I had Covid twice and been vaccinated twice with Pfeizer.

The first time I had Covid (not vaccinated yet) my period was as usual. Came on time, was completely normal.
After vaccination my cycle was normal as well, no change in length or heaviness.

After what I assume was omicron, my cycle went from 28 days to 50 days. 🥺🥺🥺 I really thought I was pregnant but when I went to my gp and she did a scan, she said it all looks normal, that it looks like I ovulated late, and I went on to have a normal period (not any heavier). The same cycle I started with Clomid so I will see what this cycle will be like. I’m praying I don’t get it at allx 😬

MochaHoldTheMilkAndCoffee · 29/03/2022 16:00

I had covid a week before I was due to ovulate and fell pregnant. Qe're TTC and DTD as normal

AgathaMystery · 29/03/2022 16:07

Interestingly, despite anecdotes to the contrary, there is no evidence that vaccines affected cycles.

There is also data from 18,000 women to show that pandemic stress has not affected cycle regularity or length.

journals.lww.com/greenjournal/fulltext/9900/association_between_menstrual_cycle_length_and.357.aspx

& an excellent blog here with lots of data.

Whoops. Forgot to link.

Hi @AgathaMystery actually there is peer reviewed evidence now to say that the vaccines do affect cycles; albeit this change is short lived Smile

That said, in this thread I was asking for people’s experience on any cycle changes following Covid itself rather than following a vaccination.

I'm currently 5 days late after finally getting a negative LFT on Thursday. I currently have none of my usual PMT symptoms. Will be interesting to see how long it takes to arrive.

Interesting! I wonder what data will bear our over time? I can attest (and royally, NOT data) that the birth rate where I work is not affected. Confused

I mis-read the post.
