Why are my temps (bbt) still high when AF has been and gone?

Hello

Just wondered if anyone has had this happen or has a similar story and knows what it could be or if it’s just ‘normal’.

I have been tracking my BBT and according to my chart I ovulated on CD17. I actually got my positive and peak opks on CD14 and they were negative again by CD15 but my temp shift didn’t happen until CD17/18.

My temps pre-ovulation were around 36.3 and then after ovulation they were around 36.6-36.7

I started spotting and having pink cm at 11dpo and it turned into a full heavy AF at 13dpo. This made my cycle 29 days long.

My temps didn’t drop before AF or during AF and It’s now finished and my temps are still high. They are still at post-ovulation temps around 36.6-36.7. On CD3 (or 15dpo) it shot up high to 36.93 and then went back down the last two days to 36.6-36.7.

So I have had 17/18 days of high temps after ovulation but I’ve had a full heavy AF and I took a HPT 2 days ago and BFN. I’m also not unwell.

I had a lot of cramping from ovulation until a few days before AF more than usual but then no cramping the few days before or during AF. I had shooting and aching pains in my boobs and I’ve been very tired. Assuming this is all normal and just due to AF and I’ve had no other unusual symptoms.

My thermometer isn’t faulty because I have 2 and I’ve checked them both to compare. I take my temps at the same time every morning, first thing before doing anything.

I thought that my temps should have dropped by now?

I’ve attached my chart. I’ve taken my AF out just so that the temps can all be seen on one chart together but CD30 on this chart is actually CD1 of my new chart and the first full day of AF (hope that makes sense).

I guess my question is why are my temps still high and has this happened to anyone and when did they go back down?

This is my first month charting BBT and just trying to learn and also I’m worried if they don’t come back down will I ovulate in this new cycle?

Thanks Smile

I don’t have another chart to compare but CD4 (yesterday) and CD5 (today) temps were 36.59 and 36.68 and last cycle (at the start of my chart) CD4 and CD5 temps were 36.26 and 36.28 so that’s different.

Hi again! It's not that unusual for the temps to take a few days to drop properly - and usually that cycle you sort of end up just having a slightly higher baseline measurement but will still ovulate and have a temp shift.

Hello!

I think I was just being a worrier. I went on FF and found a few charts similar to mine where the temp dropped around CD7/8 so I’m thinking fingers crossed that will be similar for me.

Aslong as I still get a temp shift and can see ovulation then that’s good. Thank you! Smile

@Newbiemg don't worry - it's easy to get bogged down in the day to day temps. Just remember to take a step back and focus on the overall pattern ☺️

Hi @Newbiemg I know this post is a few months old, but just found it as I was googling it exactly the same thing! My high temps have continued during period, just wondering when your temp ended up dropping? Did you find any reason for it?
my temp usually drops the day 1 of my period!
