Spotting, period late, neg test (tw: past MMC)

Decided to start not actively trying but not preventing this month to ease ourselves back into TTC after a traumatic MMC last summer. I've been incredibly regular the last few months, 28 day cycles and a 12 day luteal phase. This cycle has been really weird and I'm worried.

I'm CD 35 and have had a small amount of spotting for the last 4 days that seems to be subsiding. I took a pregnancy test a couple of days ago and it was negative. I doubt it is implantation bleeding as we did not have sex in the much later fertile window than we are used to.

I remember having fertile discharge for longer earlier this month but my husband had a work trip so there wasn't much we could do about it and we were trying to keep things relaxed. I also had my booster jab just before Xmas and a few days before my last period (that came bang on time).

Any ideas on what is happening? I'll take another test tomorrow to be sure but we are in miracle conception territory based on the timing. Could it be anovulatory? If so, how do I keep track of things next month - do I class the spotting as a period? Is it just the booster messing things up?

I guess I'm hoping this sounds familiar to others and a bit of reassurance that it will resolve itself

What CD do you normally get your AF?

Could be that you didn't ovulate and your body tries to ovulate a second time. Or it could be that you're pregnant but tested too early when you tested. Or you spot before your period. I had that once or twice, was really weird, never happened before and not again.

Thanks for replying @Bundaberg84 Smile
I usually get AF on CD28. I'm CD36, another negative pregnancy test and the spotting seems to be ending. I'm guessing this was my first anovulatory cycle.

I guess I'll just have to start ovulation tracking again and hope my body sorts itself out. If I do get pregnant this next month I suppose I'll have to use the spotting days as a period for dating

That makes sense; I'd do the same if I were you. Fingers crossed the next month is going to be your month!

Hey OP,

I am now in a similar situation. Although I have 3 week long cycles. According to that prediction, AF was due on Saturday. I tested Sunday and it was negative. I have noticed increased discharge and I started spotting today. However, no sign of AF and I feel like I am coming on but nothing yet.

LaForza101 · 31/01/2022 21:01

@Gillseybear It's so frustrating isn't it? I would test again in a few days just to be certain if AF doesn't come. I had slightly heavier spotting on Saturday and was sure AF was finally coming but it's pretty much tapered off.

Looking back at last month I had a few sleepless nights but nothing that I thought would mess up my cycle so much

It really is frustrating. I honestly feel like shit at the moment. I have had two MCs before and in both of them I felt really sick straight away. I feel exactly the same now as I did before I had both MCs but just going to keep testing I think. I shall test on Wednesday which is when Flo thinks my period is due for some reason.

I feel you @Gillseybear
I got quite upset at the weekend feeling like I've just had a run of bad luck since trying to conceive. I haven't accumulated enough evidence to suggest that anything is biologically wrong yet but I do feel a bit cursed.

I'm wishing you the best of luck and hope that whatever happens you will be able to get out of this limbo feeling and be able to take steps forward

I have proof that I have something wrong and gynaecology down here will still not help me. So I am left in pain. When I lived at home in Oxford they were super helpful and willing to figure out what was going on but since I moved down to plymouth they have been awful and no help at all. So just hoping I get lucky by figuring it all out on my own. It's the best I can do in the circumstances
