TTC - A little unorthodox TMI - Do we stand a chance?

I'm slightly embarrassed writing this but my partner and I have had some issues TTC.

He has had issues with confidence leading him to struggle to ejaculate. Recently we've overcome this, however he struggles/ doesn't manage to ejaculate inside me, so until we can overcome that, we just scoop it up into a menstrual cup and I put it in me and wear it for the rest of the day.

We might try a syringe too.

Of course we would prefer to do it the conventional way but so far we haven't managed to.

I am tracking ovulation, and I am fertile ATM and according to both apps I use the best chance of conception is today and the following few days.

Do we stand a chance?

Yes I know someone who got pregnant that way but it took A while!

titchy · 10/01/2022 16:01

Wouldn't you be better doing a headstand for a bit to get the ejaculate to your cervix?

tomato93 · 10/01/2022 16:01

Should have also mentioned - we have also started seeing a fertility clinic for some explanatory work. Semen analysis and I have had some scans done - so far generally okay however they did note I have small ovaries, praying this doesn't hold us back. We are so praying for a baby.

Hello! I'm a lesbian TTC with a gay man and we do it this way :) this month we used a syringe, pre-seed and the ferti lily cup. I absolutely have lots of info on this way of TTC & know lots of people who have had success this way. I've also been on a steep learning curve with the syringes and generally the process of self-insemination!

Well, I did lie down for a bit aha, that is why I am wondering if a syringe might be better.

Oooh good luck! I hope it works for you. Can you recommend a specific syringe or any information on what might improve our chances :)

@tomato93 I do hips in the air for 30 mins after insemination and then I keep the ferti lily cap in for two hours at least after. Look into either the ferti lily or a cervical disc? It keeps the sperm right at the cervix rather than a menstrual cup with is further down. And yeah I'd say a good thing about syringes is you can pretty much insert the sperm right by your cervix. Major TMI alert but having an orgasm after insemination also really helps the swimmers make it up there and helps to sort of suck the cervical cap right against the cervix. I'm in my TWW at the moment and expecting this process to take longer than other ways of baby making but the process itself is working well for us and it's a really good option.

tomato93 · 10/01/2022 16:15

Thanks for the info. We will get a ferti lily to aid us :)

The mosie baby is a rounded syringe designed for this purpose, but people have been getting pregnant this way for years using a normal syringe and a yogurt pot 🤣 my wife and I opted for IVF in the end but I did a ton of research first.

lakejupiter · 10/01/2022 16:21

@tomato93 yes absolutely omg, so nice to be able to talk about this wealth of otherwise TMI insemination information I have. Even my coparent is sick of me talking about it!

We bought round ended needleless syringes plus some other bits of kit from Tilly Bloom on Amazon. But you're basically looking for any syringe that's fairly long with a rounded tip, that way you can get the sperm close to the cervix. This is the process we used this month - I hope it's useful. Some of it may not apply as you're a couple so a bit more "intimate" than me and my coparent - we have a very platonic relationship so need a bit of privacy to do our thing.

  1. He does his thing into a sterile cup in the bathroom and then sucks it into the syringe.
  1. He brings the syringe of stuff into the bedroom
  1. I lie on the bed with my hips raised up by a couple of cushions - try to keep my hips higher than my head.
  1. I use preseed first and try to get it quite far in
  1. I use the syringe, inserting it as far as possible and trying to get the semen close to the cervix. I also try to make sure there aren't air bubbles in the syringe because that can cause some problems but neither of us are amazing at removing the air bubbles so I just make sure to plunge super super slowly.
  1. I insert the ferti lily cervical cap getting it as close to cervix as poss whilst trying not to displace any sperm!
  1. I lie there for ages wondering if I've done it right. It's apparently helpful to have an orgasm at this time too so that the uterine contractions pull the sperm up, and this also seems to secure the cervical cap.
  1. After 45 minutes of lying with my hips up I usually get up for a while. I wear the cervical cap for as long as I can and when I remove it there's usually some stuff in there but not loads.

I hope that's helpful!! Happy to answer anything else too, though obv take my advice with a pinch of salt bc I'm still TTC so not sure any of this has worked yet. But my method is based on speaking to two other sets of gay coparents who successfully conceived this way with the syringe/cap combo Halo

tomato93 · 10/01/2022 16:27

Thank you so much! I've ordered some of the round head syringes too.

I really appreciate all the information, it makes sense. I have read up on preseed - what does it actually do?

lakejupiter · 10/01/2022 16:37

@tomato93 it's a sperm friendly lubricant that's supposed to aid sperm motility - I think it's especially useful if you don't have EWCM yet so I used more of it on the first day of insemination as hasn't got those signs of ovulation yet. Super glad that was helpful!!

tomato93 · 11/01/2022 19:34

The syringes with the rounded end have arrived so I will try again this eve and do the elevated hips for as long as I can. I'm still in my fertile window, fingers crossed!

Yay good luck @tomato93 - I'm done for this month and now on my 2ww

tomato93 · 14/01/2022 08:05

Well we've had three days where I've done the syringe method and then hips up for about 30 min to an hour.

I guess we will see what happens. I'm terribly nervous. I have a sinking feeling it won't work but trying to stay positive 🌈

Feeling very sad today. I had cramps this morning so pretty sure my period is on its way. I did a pregnancy test (early I know) but couldn't help myself and was as I expected negative.

This coming month I am away for a few days and looking at my trackers I think I will be away over my entire fertile window - I don't even want to go now :(

It is so hard to stay upbeat :( I think it hurts more as my best friend is pregnant and even though I love her with all my heart and am so happy for her, each time I see her I feel sad :( Selfish I know.
