Hi, can anyone help reassure me?
My last period was approx 23rd November, I had sex once around the 9th/10th December and on the 23rd December got a positive clear blue digital saying 1-2 weeks. Going by my last period I thought I should be about 6 weeks 4 days today. However I have been for a private early scan (abdominal) today and she could only see a sac and no baby and told me that I’m earlier than I thought and that I must be around 5 weeks. I did another clear blue digital when I got home and it says 2-3 weeks. My periods aren’t on the same date each month but I don’t know if they are ‘regular’ per se, as I don’t track them. But I know that I only had sex once so I know I must have ovulated around that week of the 9th December so I really thought I would be about 6 weeks by now. Does this seem right to anyone? Has anyone had a similar situation and everything been ok? I’m going back for a rescan in 3 weeks

Clear Blue works on levels on hormones abs calculates from the day of conception; medics work on the date of our last period, so will be a week or two ahead.

Thank you, so you think it’s right for me to be showing a week behind what I thought?

When this happened to me it was a missed miscarriage the sac had grown but no baby. I hope this isn't the case for you.

Have you booked in again for another scan? Didn't they offer an internal scan? Not sure you would see much at 6 weeks on an abdominal scan - although im no expert!

NSJ28 · 08/01/2022 19:22

Yes believer I’m going back in 3 weeks. They didn’t offer an internal it was a private scanning clinic and they don’t have the transvaginal probes but they do offer abdominal from 6 weeks. I still have pregnancy symptoms such as sore/tender nipples and food aversions and slight nausea so I do still feel like I’m pregnant, I just thought I was further along than they are saying

Sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days. So although you had sex on the 9th in might not have been until quite a few days later that you actually conceived. Could this have altered the dates slightly? Unfortunately it’s one of those horrible situations where all you can do is wait it out until another scan. 3 weeks is a long time though, could you get one a week sooner privately?

Hello @NSJ28 I am so new to all of this myself. Only cycle 2 of ttc baby #1 and I’m still learning and getting lots wrong so I may not be the best at giving advice but didn’t want to just read and run.

Are you counting your weeks from the day you had sex? It can take a few days for the egg to be fertilised after sex and then a few more days for implantation I believe so I think your conception date can be later than the day you actually had sex. So maybe it took a week after you had sex for everything to happen for you to then conceive and be pregnant.

That’s what I read while researching online anyway but someone can correct me if I’m wrong Smile

Yes that could well have altered the dates, I just really hope that’s the case! Unfortunately this scan today was a private scan place so unless I pay again and go elsewhere then I will just have to wait :(

Hi! I’m counting my weeks from the first day of my last period which was approx 23rd November which would make me 6 weeks + 4 now. But I’m wondering if maybe I ovulated late and maybe the sperm was inside me for a few days before I actually ovulated, then that could hopefully explain why I’m showing earlier via ultrasound. It’s just going to be a long wait for my next scan :(

Really hope everything works out well for you. Sending you lots of luck Flowers

I would have another scan if it was me and check they do it vaginally, not sure why they’d do it on your stomach - my clinic didn’t do it that way til after12 weeks

Hi! Just wondered what the outcome was for you @NSJ28?

NSJ28 · 01/04/2022 08:36
