Recurrent miscarriage investigations

Hi all, I’m hoping you guys have some experience in this department, because I’m feeling seriously low right now 😕

We started TTC this time last year, got pregnant straight away, but at 9 weeks I was rushed into hospital with a corneal ectopic. Right tube removed entirely and a fair few stitches in uterus. Had to wait until Sept to try again. Again got pregnant immediately, but lost it at about 5/6 weeks. Tried again, fell pregnant again, but lost again at 5/6 weeks.

I’ve always been super healthy, don’t smoke, don’t drink that often and have never been overweight. But I am 36.

Now that I’ve had 3 losses, my GP said she’ll refer me for scans and blood tests, but because of the COVID backlog and Christmas etc, I’m not likely to be seen until late Jan/early February. I’ve booked to see a private consultant on Thursday instead now, as I just need to get the ball rolling.

Had anyone got any positive stories about a pregnancy going full term after losses like mine? Any experiences of investigations into losses?

Everything I read and consultants I’ve spoken to say that it’s really rare to have (a) a corneal ectopic, and (b) three miscarriages in a year.

I think I just need reassurance that it’s all going to be OK... I’m trying to be upbeat because I’m lucky enough to be seeing my family for the first time in two years this week, but inside I’m breaking.

@Hopingforarainbow27 yep I will do, same to you too! Let me know if you need a chat after your scan and results ❤️

chasingtherainbow1 · 22/06/2022 20:37

@Hopingforarainbow27 hi just wondering how you are getting on? I know you said you had a scan coming up and was wondering how it went?

Hopingforarainbow27 · 22/06/2022 22:01

@chasingtherainbow1 I'm waiting on the results but the woman who done it said she thinks everything seemed ok! I got the pathology results back from the twins too and they found nothing wrong!

chasingtherainbow1 · 22/06/2022 22:21

@Hopingforarainbow27 that's good that she said everything seemed ok. Although if you're anything like me it's kinda frustrating at the same time that you can't find anything to fix. I'm sorry about the twins ❤️ Do you know what your next steps are? I hope you're doing ok.

I think we're just going at it with everything now and hoping for the best. Loads of vitamins, progesterone, aspirin, blood thinners. I even read about endometritis and spoke to my GP who has prescribed antibiotics to take for 14 days which surprised me because they never help, I always have to go private.

Hopingforarainbow27 · 22/06/2022 22:59

@chasingtherainbow1 I'm the same. Just have to hope for the best but I'm also never going to get excited if I do get pregnant. My consultant said to go on progesterone again from a positive test. I asked about aspirin and she advised against it!
Do you have Endo?
It's hard to believe it could happen three times and there be no medical reason for it!

chasingtherainbow1 · 22/06/2022 23:40

@Hopingforarainbow27 I've seen 2 consultants and one said to take aspirin and the other didn't, quite frustrating! I don't have endometriosis but endometritis is different. It's an infection on the endometrium which can cause miscarriage until it is treated with antibiotics. I think my doctor gave me the antibiotics as a just in case. So you only take them for 14 days and that's it. I believe it is being trialed at Tommy's atm.

I know it's like there has to be something wrong. I have a gut feeling my hormones are out of whack as they said I might have slight pcos so I have been trying everything to rectify it. I guess we just have to keep going and believe that it will happen knowing we've done our best.

I know this is also a bit weird but I few like I don't want to tell anyone of I get pregnant again, as I'm not even my partner. I think it will feel like less pressure for me not that he ever pressures me I just get a bit anxious about it all

Hopingforarainbow27 · 22/06/2022 23:46

@chasingtherainbow1 oh I must look that up!! The girl who scanned me actually said my left ovary was slightly enlarged which could indicate borderline pcos!! But would need a laparoscopy to know for sure! But she said pcos doesn't cause miscarriages so I dunno!!

I am the exact same!!! I feel like I don't want to tell anyone and just pretend it's not happening. I guarded myself last time and it has definitely helped me heal so I think if there is a next time I want to be even more guarded! So sad :( please keep in touch with me cos we are going through the same feelings 💞

chasingtherainbow1 · 22/06/2022 23:59

@Hopingforarainbow27 my consultant told me pcos can contribute to miscarriage because it causes your hormones to be off balance. It really is hard to get a consultant to agree with another one isn't it!

Yeah exactly. It feels like keeping it to yourself means there's leas people to disappoint as it's bad enough carrying it yourself. Yeah deffo keep in touch. Or does sound like we're on similar positions and it's better to not feel like you're going through it alone

chasingtherainbow1 · 23/06/2022 19:11

@Hopingforarainbow27 just wondering if you'd seen this recently?

www.tommys.org/about-us/news-views/vitamin-d-deficiency-linked-higher-risk-miscarriage#

I had read about it before but it seems Tommy's are paying f a lot of attention to it now

Hopingforarainbow27 · 23/06/2022 19:42

@chasingtherainbow1 thank you! I'm on 1000 strength Vitamin D! Been on it for maybe 5/6 months now! Are you on it? My vitamin d bloods just showed I was on the verge of a deficiency but not bad!

sunnyrainbow · 23/06/2022 20:27

@chasingtherainbow1 @Hopingforarainbow27
Thank you for sharing all the above, especially about vitamin D.

I have had two mmc's and no reasons we are aware of. We had fertility checks before ttc and all looking ok for us both.

I have a son who is 5 and no issues in that first pregnancy.

Not ttc again at the moment but am scared for that 3rd loss when we do.

chasingtherainbow1 · 23/06/2022 21:06

@Hopingforarainbow27 I only started taking 1000 strength after my 3rd miscarriage but I didn't realise it was such a big deal. Tommys emailed me today about it.

@sunnyrainbow sorry to hear about your losses. It's somehow worse when you can't find a cause isn't it. It is indeed scary but I guess we just have to keep trying and Hopi f it is pros our soon!

chasingtherainbow1 · 30/10/2022 16:24

@Hopingforarainbow27 how are you getting on?
