Hey all,

Sorry for the long post just worried and confused and my doctors have been no help. So with Christmas coming up I have no idea what to do or who I can turn to.

So I stopped taking my pill on the 5th November 2021 on the advice of my doctor and in agreement with my partner. I had what I believed to be AF between the 8th and 10/11th November. I know periods are not regular after coming of off the pill.

Now fast forward 4 weeks and I was officially due on 6th December. However, Af has not shown up yet and there is no sign of it either.

Then from the day AF I as due, I have been suffering with severe nausea and I have vomited a couple of times. To go with that I have had lower back pain, achy boobs, metallic taste in mouth amongst other things.
Due to no AF I have taken several tests but they have all come back as BFNs

I spoke to my doctors last week and they said they would do bloods to have a look if no answers by this week. However, I rang them today and spoke to a different doctor and she said that they would not do bloods and to just carry on as normal and keep testing.

So now I am freaking out as supposed to be going home for Christmas but worried because I do not want to drink and cause any issues just in case I am pregnant. My partner is annoyed as like me he just wants to figure out what is going on and why I feel like pure crap all the time.

I guess my question is do I proceed as if I am pregnant or just carry on as normal???????. My anxiety is getting the better of me and I am starting to freak out now

Which tests have you been using. First response ones are the most accurate. I would be phoning the doctors and chasing up blood tests or any examination if you have been vomiting as its been a week. Always test on first morning wee. It took me until i was 6 weeks to show i was positive after testing everyday for 9 days. Sometimes you just know. I hope you get the outcome you want.

Gillseybear · 15/12/2021 09:52

Hey @Brusselsprouts21

Thank you so much for your response.
I have been using frees and even they have come back negative. My sister said that it took her until she was 8 weeks to get a positive with her youngest.

I have spoken to my doctors twice. The first time my doctor said that he would get me in for bloods this week if I was still feeling the way I am. So I rang them back yesterday after still getting all negative tests and ended up speaking to a different doctor and she said that they do not do anything and to just keep testing every week and they would not do anything until AF was 6 months late. Even though I said I thought I was pregnant. The doctor even said to me I hope for your sake you are not pregnant. I was so upset and confused but had a job interview and so needed to focus on that.

I just feel so let down by the people who are supposed to help and now have no idea what to do. Have severe anxiety and being autistic is really not helping

Ring your doctor again and tell them you need blood tests. You shouldn't be made to feel like you have been let down. As a fellow anxiety sufferer i know its easy to say but hard to do but try and take a day to relax. How many days late are you now?

Were you trying to conceive OP?

I would assume that you aren't pregnant for now, if you are consistently testing negative on FRERs.

The initial bleed a few days after stopping the pill is likely to be a withdrawal bleed rather than a true period, so I wouldn't necessarily be expecting a period 4 weeks after that and assuming lateness if it didn't happen.

Personally, given your negative tests, I'd assume that your hormones are still adjusting and you are still waiting for your first period since stopping the pill, rather than pregnant.

However, it's worth carrying on testing every couple of days just in case, as it may be that you ovulated and got pregnant only within the last couple of weeks, so it could be too early to show on a test yet.

In your shoes, I'd just keep testing every few days and just be cautious on the alcohol front, don't have too much. It may be that AF arrives before Christmas so it's not a problem anyway :)

LittleMysSister · 15/12/2021 14:46

Ps. Don't underestimate the changes your body feels/goes through when coming off the pill. Your symptoms could be caused by the sudden change in hormones by stopping.

Gillseybear · 15/12/2021 15:04

@Brusselsprouts21 it's nice to finally speak to somebody who gets it and understands where I am coming from. I genuinely feel like crap at the moment and I just wish I had some answers. Hoping my body figured crap out soon.

I am now 9 days late and so hence the confusion but like I said the last time I came of off the pill, it took two months for my first AF to arrive and then there was another two months until my next one before it started to settle back down again. However I never had any of these issues with symptoms that could be pregnancy and I have never really suffered with PMS.

When I had an ultrasound done back at the start of November they did find a cyst but they thought that it suggested I had Adenomyosis and so waiting to speak to gynaecology about that one. I do not trust my doctors enough to go back to them as it's very rare you see the same doctors because it's a big surgery down here that also has a branch on the university campus.

Hey thank you so much for your response @LittleMysSister

No me and my partner were not TTC. If I am it would be a happy accident. He already had a daughter from a previous relationship and we have discussed having children in the future. We have not been together long (6 months tomorrow) and I am still at university and so it's not something we are planning to happen just. Although we were both pretty excited when discussing it since AF didn't arrive last week.

Yeah I think that's what we are going to do just keep testing and see what happens. I think my frustration comes from the fact that two different doctors told me completely different things and that has left me confused and unsure of what is going on.

When I came of off this pill back in October 2020, I had none of these issues, just no period showed up for two months. I also never had a withdrawal bleed or any bleeding until bang on two months after I stopped taking the pill. I went back on it in April this year because I have suspected endometriosis (they found evidence that I had Adenomyosis when in hospital at the same time I was bleeding) so the doctors hoped that this time it would help. So because I came of exactly the same pill I was expecting my body to react exactly the same. Hence the reason why when these symptoms appeared I thought i could possibly be pregnant.

Just going to have to keep an eye on things and see what happens. I am debating contacting my local Sexual health clinic and seeing if they can help

Not sure if anyone will see this but I also came off the pill on the 6th of November and currently have 6 positive pregnancy tests in my draw! They only started to show on Thursday though! I did 3 of the pink ones and 2 clearblue, and one weeks calculator one.

I'd assume your not for now but perhaps test again in a week if your not sure! And get on to your doctors to make them listen. Hope this helps.

Gillseybear · 18/12/2021 22:59

Hello All,

Thank you so much for your replys. Turns out my body was just messing me about AF or what appears to be AF arrived today. It is however lighter than normal but we shall see. At least I finally have answers now

AmberRH1993 · 18/12/2021 23:47

Hi @MotherHaryy, how many dpo were you when you got your first bfp?
I came off the pill around the same time, had a withdrawal bleed then my first proper AF from 7-11 December - not sure when AF is due could be either 21st or 28th depending on when I ovulated.

MotherHaryy · 19/12/2021 09:03

@AmberRH1993 I honestly couldn't tell you, I think it's somewhere around 13DPO? My clear blue says I conceived roughly 2-3 weeks ago, so I'm bet early on!

How are you feeling in yourself? I noticed I was crying a lot, very tired, and grumpy😂

AmberRH1993 · 19/12/2021 09:07

@MotherHaryy I think I've ovulated later than I thought so now I'm around 7/8dpo with lots of stabbing pain on my groin and backache. Coming off the pill is so confusing with all the hormones adjusting - AF was due 21st but now because the later ovulation, my app says 28th

MotherHaryy · 19/12/2021 09:26

@AmberRH1993 - I didn't track it or not really, so was amazed to find out I was pregnant on our first month of trying, I also had like a mild cramp in my lower tummy. That I still have now.

I'll keep everything crossed for you! When do you think you'll test?

Farley21 · 19/12/2021 09:30

@Gillseybear
I came off the pill in October and had my "period" a few days after also. This a actually a withdrawal bleed not a natural period. Similarly, I had some symptoms throughout the next few weeks, loads of negative tests and didn't get my period (my first natural one) until about 7 weeks after stopping pill. Doc said it's perfectly normal and can take a few months before it goes back to normal.
I will say, it is quite awkward with drinking alcohol because I guess you don't know if you're pregnant or not. I took one once a week to make sure before having a drink. There's no point in over testing. If you're getting negative FRER I would assume you're not pregnant for now.
Maybe don't go mad on the drink over Christmas but I wouldn't let it stop me either. You'll be delighted when you get your period Confused I know I was! At least then you have an idea of what you cycle is like! Good luck x

AmberRH1993 · 19/12/2021 09:32

@MotherHaryy Yeah all the dates get muddled up so it's hard to track on the first cycle. I've come down with a rotten cold over the last 4 days and the same happened with my son before bfp. I think I'll wait until after 21st as that was my first predicted AF date

MotherHaryy · 19/12/2021 09:47

@AmberRH1993 that's exactly how I feel! I know for a fact that I came off the pill in the 6th of November. That's it.. ooh hopefully the cold is a good sign then?!

I didn't find out with my little girl until much later on so it's hard to work out what's normal and what's not but I'm very excited!

Is this your first cycle too?

AmberRH1993 · 19/12/2021 09:55

@MotherHaryy yes this is the 1st cycle. One other thing that was the same as DS is I've noticed little white bumps on my nipples. I did some tests this week because I thought I was 11 dpo but obviously ovulated later than I thought

MotherHaryy · 19/12/2021 17:39

@AmberRH1993 oh wow, hopefully those are some positive reactions happening!! I've got everything crossed for you!

I have tested again today just to be sure, I'm so happy, I just want to tell everyone but I know it's so early!

JessieLongleg · 19/12/2021 18:02

You can pay for a blood test, the is a pregnancy progress test by medichecks. Costs about £50 I've had 3 between week 5-9. They measure HCG and progesterone the GP will only most likely measure HCG. But if you are not producing enough for a early pregnancy test a blood test may not show up higher levels of HCG which is most likely why GP is saying no.

AmberRH1993 · 19/12/2021 18:02

@MotherHaryy it's fantastic when you find out. When I had my son I told my nearest and dearest because if anything bad happens then those are the people who would be there to support me along my ttc journey ❤️ I took a pregnancy test strip cheap today but I think I have line eyes 😂

MotherHaryy · 19/12/2021 18:25

@AmberRH1993 - My girl is only 18 months but honestly I had such a bad relationship when I found out with her I was worried the whole time so this time I'm so excited!

I've told some people but still keeping it quiet for now, just in case. Oooh pic? There might be a line? I really hope so! Would by nice to know someone else is in the same boat💐

@MotherHaryy I don't think so.. Perhaps an evap but here it is.
Excuse the bright yellow - I'm taking vitamin b12 and it makes your pee fluorescent 😂

Am I pregnant or is it just my imagination
MotherHaryy · 20/12/2021 12:54

@AmberRH1993 - ooh I think possibly a ever so slightly faint line? Maybe test again when your due on! Xx
