Miscarriage following ttc for 19 months

Hi all,

I’m new here but just reaching out for some support and positive stories. I recently had a miscarriage around the 6 week mark with my first baby. Me and my husband had been ttc for 19 months with no success and had been diagnosed with unexplained infertility following testing. As you can imagine we were over the moon to finally get a positive test but it appears the embryo never really developed and I was given a D and C just over a week ago. Fortunately, my bleeding stopped nearly immediately and I appear to be getting negative pregnancy tests so my body seems ready to try again, which I’m very much on board with. We are dtd occasionally but I’m not monitoring, so if I get my first period in a few weeks that is fine and we will put more effort in!

On a side note we have been told we have funding for one cycle of IVF on the NHS but I’m reluctant to jump in to this if I can get pregnant naturally again. Also, they don’t know about my miscarriage so not sure if this changes things. We have about 5 months to decide what to do with it until it expires.

I haven’t got any friends or family who have been in the same situation so support has been difficult (although everyone has been amazing). I was just looking to find people who had been through similar and had positive stories to tell.

I’m so sorry to hear about your miscarriage, that must have been so difficult after a long time trying. It’s great that you are ready to TTC again and I wish you all the luck. I would really recommend reposting your message in the below thread as there’s lots of posters there who have been in a similar situation and are weighing up natural TTC vs IVF and will be able to share their thoughts.
