TTC #1 - need some buddies to keep me sane!

Hey all - looking for some buddies to chat about TTC baby #1 as I think my OH's ears may fall off soon 😂!

I'm 30 and on cycle 13 of TTC properly tracking ovulation etc. Have been TTC off of contraceptive pill for 19 cycles.

Have had two early MC the last two cycles. Currently on cycle day 10 and all it's all I can think about after last two cycles.

Have an appointment with GP this week - any advice on what I should be asking her to test for? But lost when it comes to all this. Honestly thought getting pregnant would happen so quickly!

X

Hey 👋🏻 it's such a painful wait isnt it! I asked my GP to check my bloods for hormone imbalances etc but I'm sure that will be your GPs first step ☺️ good luck!! X

Mushrooms0up · 27/11/2021 22:26

I’ll join! I’m also 30 and TTC number 1. I came off the pill in march and my cycles are all over the place.

My last one was over 100 days but I’ve just had AF so hoping starting to get back on track…

We only started TTC this month and I say trying in the loosest sense of the word, but I think it’s going to take awhile so I’m in for the long haul.

I saw my GP and as I have PCOS she has suggested metformin but we’re going to see how I get on for the next 6 months or so first….

It’s all so overwhelming! Similarly I thought it would just happen straightaway!

Geemmm · 27/11/2021 23:05

Hey @xoJellyBean it isn't half painful 😅 feel like it's all I think about which probably isn't helping the situation!

Thanks, I will ask this. Feel a bit lost as I don't know why or where to start. Have heard folk talk about baby aspirin and progesterone supplements and it's all a bit much to take in.

How did you get on with ur GP checking ur bloods? X

Geemmm · 27/11/2021 23:10

Hey @Mushrooms0up 👋🏻

Aw it's murder isn't it - it took me about 5 months to get any sort of normal AF after I stopped the pill and I still felt a bit all over the place for a while after that. Was on it for about 14 years and think my body is ruined from it.

I hope you don't mind me asking - what is the metformin for?

My OH's mother suggested I ask about Clomid as she needed some to conceive my OH but I think I'm obviously ovulating fine if my last 2 cycles have had BFP. So confused with it all.

Glad to have someone on the same journey though thanks for messaging 🥰

Mushrooms0up · 27/11/2021 23:12

Not at all! I have PCOS which they think is driven by high blood sugar, so apparently metformin can help and sort my cycles out, but it’s all just a bit of guess work really..

It’s all so overwhelming. Are you taking any supplements or anything?

Mushrooms0up · 27/11/2021 23:19

PCOS is polycystic overy syndrome - sorry I’m so bogged down in it I forget it’s not common knowledge

xoJellyBean · 27/11/2021 23:38

@Geemmm totally, I get you! I don't worry about the aspirin or progesterone just yet but since you've had previous MC's I would bring it up with your doctor as the guidance has changed ☺️ my bloods were abnormal and I've been diagnosed with PCOS as well. Starting my treatment soon! X

Geemmm · 28/11/2021 10:39

@Mushrooms0up ah I see. When did they diagnose yourself with PCOS?

Sending you lots of luck - hopefully this isn't a long journey for you and your partner!

Are you going to track ovulation through tests or anything?

I have been and I'm now thinking I might just DTD when we feel like it every few days and take the pressure off 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm in the limbo with what is actually the best idea now.

Geemmm · 28/11/2021 10:42

@xoJellyBean

I know I was very tempted to just start taking baby aspirin this cycle but my OH is a bit worried and wants me to speak to GP first. Just a nightmare actually getting seen at the moment.

Gosh - what sort of treatment will you be starting?

How long have you been TTC? Is this also baby #1 for you? X

xoJellyBean · 28/11/2021 10:58

@Geemmm I've gone private because I was sick of the waiting around, I came off my pill in 2018. Started properly trying late 2019 so I've been struggling along for a while now 🤣 and yes it's baby #1 ❤️ desperately want to be a mum! I'll be starting clomid hopefully 🤞🏻 are you still continuing to try at the moment before seeing your GP? At least if you get your bfp they will be able to give you progesterone 🤞🏻 x

Mushrooms0up · 28/11/2021 11:14

@Geemmm it was back when I was about 14, but I just went on the pill and largely ignored it until now! I don’t really have any symptoms other than irregular periods so only actually a problem now!

We’re holding off on OPKs for now and just DTD when we feel like it fairly regularly. Might not be the best approach but as we’re so early on I don’t want to stress too much too early.

Have you been tracking ovulation so far?

Geemmm · 28/11/2021 16:03

@xoJellyBean

I'm honestly thinking about it in the new year if we have no luck too - have you had a decent experience going private so far?

Aw bless you mrs - it isn't half a long struggle. I'm not as long as you and tearing my hair out - hopefully you have some good news soon 🤞🏻!

Aw good - my partners mum got pregnant within three months of being on clomid so 🤞🏻!

Well we haven't starting trying again this cycle yet - I only stopped bleeding from my MC at the start of the week. I would like to start trying again asap as I was in full on pregnancy planning mode last cycle. I think I will wait until I've spoken to my GP on Thursday.

Aw I don't think I qualify for progesterone as I have 'only' had two MC so early. X

@Mushrooms0up

I see - the pill has a lot to answer for I think. I went on it because of severe periods and cramps and like you kind of forgot about it for so long that when I came off it I was like 'oh yeah this is what my normal period feels like' 😓!

Nah I think you do whatever works best for you - like you say you don't want to put pressure on and stress yourself out either. Easier said than done sometimes I suppose.

Yeah I track mines with little cheap tests. I actually seem to ovulate pretty regularly each cycle now - normally between CD15 and CD20 - so just make sure we DTD every 2nd day about that time.

Hoping you get some answers OP! When I visited the GP after my mmc (after 8 months of ttc) they told me that the 12 months clock reset before they'd do anything.

Geemmm · 28/11/2021 22:08

Oh jeez @Chanel05 I don't think I could wait another 12 months I'm making myself ill as it is! I think if I don't get any help from GP I will go private. Has your gp still not done anything for you?

OP posts:
Geemmm · 02/12/2021 18:26

Hey ladies - how we all doing?

I went to see my GP today and she's said she's really not concerned and she would only send me for further testing if I had a 3rd MC which she doesn't anticipate.

She's taking bloods on Monday to check out my overall health - thyroid etc.

Otherwise she has told me to try again as soon as I'm ready.

Hope ur all well x

Mushrooms0up · 02/12/2021 19:28

Heya! Yes not bad thanks.

I spoke to my GP today and she wants to send me for a scan for irregular periods to waiting to get that booked in.

In the meantime still taking a laid back approach really!

How are you getting on?

Geemmm · 06/12/2021 17:47

Hey @Mushrooms0up good to here they are sending you for a scan - let us know how u get on with it!

Getting on ok thanks - got some bloods taken today to test for thyroid issues etc so hopefully hear back by the end of the week 🤞🏻
