Day 21 bloods - two week wait for results

I've recently had day 3 and day 21 blood tests as I've been TTC for over 2 years and although I had a MMC last year I haven't had any other pregnancies. I had my day 3 bloods with normal results, and then day 21 bloods although my GP surgery won't give me those results - they've insisted on a GP phone appointment to discuss.

I can't get an appointment for over 2 weeks, which feels like a long time to wait just to find out if the results were normal or not. Has anyone had a similar experience, and what were the results? If it changes anything I had some day 21 blood tests a while ago but I got my period much earlier than expected that month so I actually had the tests the day before AF arrived. GP just repeated the test.

I had day 21 bloods done earlier in the year at my local fertility clinic, they took them on the Monday and rang me to discuss the results on the Thursday. Sorry you have to wait so long xxx

Thanks Pink. I hope they're normal but the GP just wants to discuss a referral on to fertility services given how long we've been trying, and that I'm 36 (nearly 37). But it could be anything, and now I'm getting worried. I'm also surprised they're allowed to refuse to give me my own personal medical information over the phone, given it belongs to me.

No worries, the nurse referred us on for IVF following the call. I was 35 at the time, results showed that I was ovulating no problems so they didn't feel the need to try Clomid and referred me straight onto the IVF waiting list. I hope you're not waiting too long once you have your results xxx

I'll need to lose weight before I'm eligible for IVF etc but presumably the waiting lists are long at the moment so I've got time to get that resolved. I've already lost 4 stone so I know I can do it, it's just a slog. I hope the IVF worked for you. I don't know whether I hope the results are normal or not - it's so complicated and emotional! xxx

If you have the NHS app then the results will already be available there?

GodspeedJune · 26/11/2021 15:02

I just ask for my results to be printed out and left at reception for me to collect. I don’t really give them the choice not to - it’s your data and you’re entitled to access it.

Waiting lists vary by county. The hold ups for me were at the fertility investigations under the local hospital. Once we got referred to an IVF clinic things moved quickly.

Thanks for the tip Juno, I tried it but don't have the right access levels. I went down to the surgery to request proper access to my medical records via the app, and I've put another eConsult request though to get my full results ahead of my appointment. Don't think I'd have had the balls without you pointing out that it IS my data, GodspeedJune.

Infertility is uncertain enough without medical professionals withholding information. I understand there are policies and procedures etc - but I should still have access to my own records, if that's what I want!

Well done. You’re absolutely entitled to your results, it’s your body after all!

Yes, it’s definitely challenging enough without extra roadblocks from medics or receptionists. Hope you get the results very soon. Flowers

If anyone is still lurking, I got my results - progesterone is 29.7. I think that's quite normal? I guess the next step is to lose the last 3 stone and wait for my name to reach the top of the fertility clinic waiting list.

These are good results bravo 👏

There are some good weight loss threads for women waiting for IVF, I've been lurking on them for a while now. You can do it dear, it will keep your mind focused on something while on the waiting list. Good luck with everything.

Thanks @dutchessmom. I'll check out the threads. Apparently my testosterone results are a bit concerning, but presumably that can only be helped by weight loss...
