Is it too soon to try for 2nd baby?

Hi all I'm 38 and have a 9 month old baby. We conceived very quickly and the pregnancy was straightforward although had an emergency c section. I would love to have another baby, but have read that you should leave 18 months between pregnancies. I think my partner and I are keen to try in the new year..so baby will be 1 year old, partly because, if we were to be fortunate to conceive it would be nice to have children close in age and because I do worry about age and fertility, but mainly I think I know I want to have another so just sort of want to crack on and get all the hard bits done...if that makes sense.
Sorry so much waffle.. but basically should I wait 18 months or fine to crack on? I appreciate that you can plan these things but reality is usually very different!

I fell pregnant 6 months after having an emergency c-section
We planned it so that we would have our babies close in age
Best thing we did
Pregnancy wasn’t the easiest but had another emergency section and it all went well x

I don't know anyone who's waited the 18 month tbh after a section. They conceived within a year.

Personally I'd say crack on with it 😊 DD1 is an IVF baby as we were told we couldn't have children and was born via elective section; when she was 10 months old I found out I was pregnant naturally with DD2.

There are 18 months between them both, DD2 was also an elective section. They are currently 1 and 2 and a half. Don't get me wrong, it can be really hard at times, but DH and I wouldn't change it for the world. They have such an adorable bond and are starting to play together so nicely. Plus at the minute a lot of the toys and clothes cross over which is a bonus!

Good luck!

Ah thanks so much guys! This is really encouraging I should never have googled it! I think we will start trying in the new year and see what happens. Thank you for the kind replies

I have 15 months between my first two....went back pg after my first mat leave. Work weren't thrilled (esp as I ended up having 4!) but it worked for us.

Yummymummy2020 · 07/11/2021 20:31

I was pregnant a few months after my first and all was grand, lovely having no big gap for us! Hopefully going to get pregnant again soon. Was told by consultant that risk goes up a bit more when you have a short gap but not by much! Main thing they said to me was keep up with the folic acid and vitamins as it’s tough on your body and you can be a bit depleted when you grow two babies close together!!!

NoWordForFluffy · 07/11/2021 20:33

I have 13 months between mine (EMCS and ELCS).

Frazzled2207 · 07/11/2021 20:35

I assumed the 18months was between sections tbh. So you’d be ok as long as you waited at least 9 months.

Anyway we got pg around the time dc1 turned 1. Boys were 20m apart and the first years were exhausting. Don’t remember much! But is great now they are older. Two peas in a pod.

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 07/11/2021 20:40

I had an emcs with my 1st baby. Was pregnant when he was 16 months. Noone ever told me to wait any length of time.

jennyt82 · 07/11/2021 20:41

I fell pregnant with my second 11 months after my first with no problems during my pregnancy

RiskyCookie · 07/11/2021 20:43

I found out I was pregnant with DD when DS was 8 weeks old. Blush

Not heard the 18month rule clearly Grin

You will be fine.

Alfixn · 07/11/2021 20:44

My consultant told me after my c section that it was perfectly fine to get pregnant again after 6 months, although i have no intention of it!

caringcarer · 07/11/2021 20:49

As you are getting older I would try for your second baby now. Although you did not have problems conceiving last time it does not mean you may not find it harder this time around. Fertility goes down rapidly every year after 36.

MamaKitz · 07/11/2021 23:52

I fell pregnant pretty quick after my EMCS, there's only 11 months between them 🙈 no issues either.

Elisemum · 08/11/2021 07:14

Think the rule is you’re meant to have 2 years between sections. As this is a major surgery so your body needs time to heal - that’s what doctors say. However I know many people who were pregnant way before that and had secrions and were totally fine. It’s not like you’re trying when your first one is 3 months! He will be one year so I’d say absolutely go for it and good luck!

Jumperoo222 · 08/11/2021 12:20

Thanks all! Think we will try and see what happens..I don't think we will regret it...where as we might be more likely too if we wait.
Thanks

Dc2 conceived first month of trying when DC1 was 10 months. EMCS with DC1, successful vbac with DC2.

DC2 seems to be fine. It was tough when they were younger but they're best buddies now.

Omg I just realised I'm 37..not 38..haha
