Static smiley on OPK 3 days after chemical pregnancy

Hi Ladies, going through a bit of a confusing time. My husband and I started TTC last month, had my copper coil removed on 20 September and ovulated shortly after that. My next period was due on 8 October but I think I had implantation bleeding then for 2 days, very light and no cramps like normal. Fast forward to the 14th, 15th and 16th and I had faint bfps on a number of different tests including a cb digital which said 1-2 weeks. I would have been around 5 weeks at that point as my last period started on 9th September.

Tested again on the 17th and got a bfn then and have ever since. Went to the gp and was referred to the EPU yesterday; they confirmed that it was likely a chemical pregnancy ☹. I didn't bleed as I would expect between the positive and negative tests and haven't since, just a tiny amount of spotting here and there and the urine test at the GPs picked up a small amount of blood.

Today just being curious I used my cb OPK and it has come up with a static smiley....what is going on?! Im really worried about my cycles being messed up. Should I TTC again today? Also confused as to why there hasn't been any bleeding after the chemical but I already appear to be in a new cycle...Any advice would be welcome, and sorry for the novel! Xx

Hey, so sorry to hear about your chemical!

To set your mind at rest - HCG and LH are very similar in their composition, so OPKs can show positive if they detect HCG. I am guessing you still have some residual HCG in your system.

The level might be too low for CB digital to pick up as that one isn't super sensitive.

If you don't get bleeding in the next week though, I'd go back to the GP or call your EPU to get checked out.

Thanks @Shortmamashortcycles, that explains it. I'm a little bit concerned about my lack of bleeding, am now 12 days late, have never been late in my life!

Hmmm I'd call your GP or EPU again and get their opinion... I'd also be worried if tests said I wasn't pregnant but my period hadn't come. It's probably within the range of normal but worth getting a healthcare professional to confirm that!

Just spoke to the GP and they said that the bleeding normally starts within 2 weeks of the first negative test, they want me to get back in contact if there is nothing by a week Sunday. Guess it's a waiting game now 😕.

Good luck @RedIvy18. It's such a shit time, I'm so sorry. (Have had a miscarriage myself.)

Please look after yourself / mobilise your support network. I hope the bleed passes as gently as possible for you, but be prepared that it may be heavier than "a heavy period".

There's a good miscarriage support forum on mumsnet if that would be helpful at any point.
