Experiences of chemical pregnancy

Hi all, I am going through a chemical pregnancy right now

I am 9 days late for AF and no signs of her yet

My BFP came at 9dpo and negative 2 weeks later, which was Friday.

Just wondered if anyone felt comfortable sharing how long it took for AF to appear? Thank you

@Flossyrex I’m so sorry for what you’re going through; it so upsetting ❤️My AF came 4/5 days after my bfp I tested at 12dpo. I’d definitely go to the GP asap if AF hasn’t turned up yet.

Flossyrex · 17/10/2021 18:33

Thank you @Dinomama21, I'm extra gutted as this is on the back of a 14 week loss in the summer. Praying for third time lucky. I'm so sorry you've been through this too. You are right I'll call my GP tomorrow x

@Flossyrex I’m so sorry for your loss through the summer too, especially at 14weeks, they are truly heart breaking. I hope your doctor will be helpful, and can get to the bottom of it tomorrow ❤️

jadeypies · 17/10/2021 20:25

Hi @Flossyrex I had a chemical last cycle and like you I found out by negative test after my bfp before bleeding started.
My bleeding started 2 days after my negative.
So so sorry for your current and previous loss, sending you hugs xxx

SlamLikeAGuitar · 17/10/2021 20:29

I had 2 chemical pregnancies in quick succession in between DCs 2 & 3.
The first one, I tested positive 10dpo, then AF arrived 3 or 4 days after my bfp.
The second one, I got my bfp early in the morning 11dpo and then AF arrived early evening that very same day.

I’m really sorry @Flossyrex That’s so hard.
Did you use the same type of test and test at the same time of day both times?
I only ask because I thought I was having a chemical but actually it was an ectopic - got a positive, then bled and positive seemed to fade but then I kept testing and it got stronger again. I did have on/off bleeding throughout though.

Thanks @ActonBell, I'm sorry for your loss. I did, the lines were a decent colour but never got darker. I did a clear blue digital that was 1-2 weeks then a week later was negative. Ectopic has been on my mind, definitely going to call go tomorrow

@Flossyrex
I have had 4 miscarriages and 1 cp, the cp being the first one. I was only 3 days late and passed a what I can describe was a jelly fish looking clot bot the size of a plum seed with vains running through it. Still ttc num 1.

@Flossyrex I'm sorry you are going through this. Just wondered how you got on?
I think I'm going through the same. I had a chemical pregnancy in April (started bleeding the same day as the positive test), I conceived again in May but found out at 11 weeks it was a MMC. Took me ages to recover as I had to have surgery but started trying again this month. I had a very faint positive at 11dpo yesterday. I'm on progesterone supplements and was advised to start clexanne injections as soon as I test positive. I rung my gynae outpatient team to check whether it was ok to start and they did a blood test yesterday just to make sure. My HCG level came back as 7 😭 They said anything over 5 is a pregnant result but it's very low and they're going to liaise with the consultant over whether to start the clexanne or not. I've done another pregnancy test this morning, clearblue is negative and the FRER is the same/ maybe lighter than yesterday's test - I know deep down it's a chemical but I think I'm in shock this is happening again. 3 losses in a row is just so hard. I have no idea what to expect now as I'm on the progesterone supplements so I feel like they are perhaps holding off my period coming.

Hi @WillowTree0721 I'm really sorry to hear about your previous losses and current concerns, it's so heartbreaking.

I've learnt this year that uncertainty can be so much more difficult to manage than bad news. It leaves you in limbo swinging between hope and despair. I actually started bleeding this evening at 12 days late and as awful as it sounds, I feel somewhat relieved to know what's happening, I was getting worried about an ectopic.

We've decided to take a break until after my December period because emotionally, we need it and I also wonder if my body needs a rest to give the best chance of a healthy pregnancy.

I really hope you get good news and some certainty too. Our rainbow babies will be so special when we can finally meet them xx

@Flossyrex Thankyou so much for your reply. You are so right about the uncertainty, it's horrible. I know in my gut this time that this is definitely a chemical so in a way I would rather just get on with the next cycle.

WillowTree0721 · 20/10/2021 23:15

Sorry @Flossyrex that previous response sent before I'd finished!
I understand what you mean about that feeling of relief re: your period coming.
I'm hoping mine won't take too long to arrive once I come off my progesterone supplements.
You're so right our rainbow babies will be so special when we do finally get to meet them. Wishing you all the best x

elenacampana · 20/10/2021 23:19

I got a positive test the first day of my missed period. A few days later I did another test and it was negative, bleeding began the a week after missed period. That was in December 2019 and nothing happened throughout 2020.

I got a positive test at the end of February this year, baby girl due in 1 week and 6 days. I only include the last part to show there is hope 💖

WillowTree0721 · 20/10/2021 23:27

@elenacampana I'm so glad you finally got there in the end and like you say there is hope 💗 xx

elenacampana · 20/10/2021 23:34

@WillowTree0721

There is, although it can be hard to find it sometimes when fertility doesn’t seem to be going your way.

I agree with the comments above about uncertainty, I think that was the worst thing about the whole process for me.

Rtmhwales · 20/10/2021 23:56

I had a chemical last cycle and period came four days late. Was devastated. However I caught on the next cycle and am currently 7+1. Waiting to see how that progresses. Studies seem to support getting and staying pregnant very quickly after a chemical so there is hope.

SoOverThisCrap · 21/10/2021 08:08

Im sorry to hear that so many people have experienced a chemical pregnancy. I had a chemical pregnancy at the beginning of the month, had a usual bleed in the end that was the same length as a period, it was slightly heavier but once I passed a clot it eased off. I then ovulated at cd15 (exactly 15 days after I started bleeding) and I'm now 4dpo, so I was fortunate that my cycle seemed to just bounce back, especially as I'm 40. Now I'm just keeping everything crossed for this current cycle. The tww sucks....
