Early ovulation after chemical pregnancy? This is a strong OPK, right?!

I always ovulate on CD13 after getting a strong OPK on CD12.

In my last cycle I had a chemical pregnancy and my very heavy period started two days sooner than normal. My period only finished last Thursday!

Anyway, I am due to ovulate on Saturday (CD13) and so was anticipating a strong OPK on Friday. However, unusually I have had some cramps yesterday and today. I have just done my daily OPK and look at the result!!

So my question is, is early ovulation typical after a chemical pregnancy?

Also, I am gutted as I feel like I’ve missed my fertile window. Sad We had sex last night thinking it was four days before ovulation, not only two!

Obviously I will encourage DH to do the deed this evening and possibly tomorrow (if he has the energy, I may have to bribe him), but I am just gutted that we are too late for this cycle now.

I am so gutted it seems to have happened early. Firstly because I don't even know if ovulation on CD11 is even a good thing medically, and secondly because we really wanted lots of sperm to be there waiting for the egg.

This morning I was lying on the bed and thinking how strange it was I was getting cramps as they were just like ovulation cramps, but it was three days too early... what a prat!

Hi @Decaffe I had a chemical pregnancy following a failed frozen embryo transfer (so a little different to your situation) and ended up ovulating very late (CD 27). However, that would partly be because of all the hormone medication I'd been taking in my previous cycle.

It might not be too late! I get ovulation pain and cramps and we DTD once last cycle about 12 hours after my ovulation cramps started and I'm now pregnant. The egg can live for as much as 24 hours so if you have sex this evening then there's every possibility!

Hi OP

Didn't want to read and run. It looks positive to me! Dtd tonight! It only takes one time. Plus surges sometimes can stay dark for a few days before the drop and ovulation occurs!

Don't be too hard on yourself.

I know when I tracked ovulation and it always fell around CD12 / CD13 we always made sure we started dtd from CD8 just incase I ever had an early ovulation!

Fingers crossed for you and I'm sorry about your chemical Thanks keep positive. I know easier said then done but It'll happen for you Smile

Also it's a good thing you had sex last night! O-1 or O-2 are the best days anyway. So sounds like you've timed it perfectly.

I think last night will have it covered tbh. Although if you do it tonight as well there's no harm.

I always thought once you got a positive OPK then ovulation is in the next 12-48 hours (depending on what website you read haha). Then the egg lives for 24 hours.

Did you do a pregnancy test recently?

StripeyBadger · 13/10/2021 17:12

I’m sorry about your miscarriage.

Have you done a pregnancy test? If you still have hcg from your last pregnancy then you will get a strong positive opk which could be the cause rather than an early ovulation (which is unusual after a miscarriage).

Thanks for all your comments. Flowers I agree that we are not necessarily out of the game this month, especially if we manage it tonight. 🤞

(Mind you, DH isn’t due home from work until 7:30 so not quite sure how enamoured he’ll be with the prospect!)

I had hoped for a couple more tries though this month but I suppose there is no use wondering ‘what if’ now.

I have done a pregnancy test and it was a stark white. Unfortunately there was a lot of clotting and my period was very heavy so I am pretty sure that it was a loss.

I just can’t believe I’m going to ovulate on CD11! Seems so early. The LHS ache is so strong that I don’t know why I didn’t take an OPK earlier in the day. I guess I just didn’t think it would be possible!

Thankfully DH seems to think he will have some energy before bed this evening...!
