How long does it take to get an appointment with an Endrocrinologist after your doctor says they will refer you?

Hi.

I was told by my doctor on the 21st of August about my progesterone levels and that thyroid levels were borderline. He said to leave it to him and he would refer me to an Endocrinologist. I was wondering how long that usually takes to get given an appointment?

Thanks

Becky

It will be worth calling the hospital you were referred to. I’ve worked at 2 and their endocrinologist waiting times varied hugely.

You used to be able to look it up on the NHS website, but now the results all say 'not available'.

Waiting times across the NHS are very long currently.

My current referral was made in May. I was given an appointment in Jan 2022. It has now been cancelled as they have no availability and will get back in touch when an appointment becomes available. I'm paying to go privately.

It's also worth noting that I'm considered highly urgent due to the impact on another condition.

Sorry, that's probably not what you want to here.

Just to clarify - the wait is so long on the NHS that I'm going to go private.
