Faint positive on internet cheapie, BFN on digital

I randomly did a pregnancy test this evening as my period has been all over the place since my second covid jab. It's usually regular as clockwork. We've been TTC for around 18 months.

I came back after a few minutes and was incredibly surprised to see what looks like a faint positive on my internet cheapie test (brand is one step) The photo attached was taken after exactly 5 minutes.

I rushed out to get a digital to confirm I wasn't having line eyes and the digital says "Not pregnant" (brand is Tesco's own digital tests)

I know there's not really much anyone can say aside from keep testing, but I just don't want to feel silly for thinking it really could have been positive I suppose Sad

I have a telephone appointment with our fertility clinic tomorrow afternoon too and I don't know whether to mention it or not.

I wouldn't mention it just now but buy a FRER and test in the morning. The digital s aren't as sensitive and you could be quite early.

CPDubs · 01/09/2021 21:08

That looks the same as my one step, you need a first response early response as a digital will need a stronger hcg. I’d definitely say you’re pregnant- though I’d check in the morning if you can. M
Bear in mind the one steps took FOREEEEVEER to get darker for me too. Literally four weeks or so!

Thank you for the replies. It sounds weird, but can I save my first morning wee to test later in the day, or am I better off with fresh? I don't have any other tests here aside from internet cheapies and my local tesco only seemed to have their own brand so i'll need to go into town.

To add further confusion to the mix, I cracked open the digital test that said "not pregnant" and there's a faint blue line on that as well.

I would use fresh urine OP. A first response test should still give you an answer even if you test later in the day as long as your wee is quite concentrated!

CPDubs · 01/09/2021 21:52

I have saved mine in the past to be honest. I also was peeing in a cup, using my cheapies then when I got a like bringing out the big (expensive guns) and using the FRER. If you don’t have morning urine, just make sure you have at least a three hour hold where you’ve not drunk very much. Good luck!

CPDubs · 01/09/2021 21:53

A positive, not a like Blush

Bundaberg84 · 01/09/2021 22:12

You can safe urine but have to keep it at room temperature. Good luck to you xx

ActonSquirrel · 01/09/2021 22:16

Breaking open a test makes the result invalid.

RKEE · 01/09/2021 22:17

That definitely looks like a positive. Fingers crossed for you Star

Digital tests are not as sensitive as internet cheapies or a first response test. I was getting very faint lines at 6dpo! So 8 days before my period was due. They stayed faint but definitely there for the next week. I did a digital one the day I was due on and it still said negative. By then my symptoms had well and truly kicked in but a digital didn't show positive until 4 days past the day I was due on.

Get a first response test tomorrow and try again. Either save your morning wee or hold your wee for a couple of hours.

Thegherkinpolice · 01/09/2021 23:12

Thanks all, my husband has ordered some FRERs on Amazon prime and they should be here by 1pm tomorrow. I'll do my best to hold my morning one until they arrive. Fingers crossed!

It looks hopeful to me, fingers crossed with the FRER!

sak96x · 02/09/2021 01:50

Looks like a positive. Good luck!x

Thegherkinpolice · 02/09/2021 10:26

Well it wasn't the FRER my husband bought Hmm it was the clear blue triple check (uk.clearblue.com/pregnancy-tests/combo-pack-triple-check) so I haven't used those.

But I did do 3 more One step cheapie tests this morning. All showing negative Sad

Hi @Thegherkinpolice have you done anymore? I’ve always known the one steps to be quite reliable and I’m sure the first was a positive!

GarnetsandRubies · 03/09/2021 14:29

The way digital tests work is by using a sensor to detect the lines. If the sensor detects online, it says 'not pregnant'. If it detects 2, it says 'pregnant'. The actual test is no better or no more sensitive than a cheap drug store test. They are expensive because you are essentially paying for sensors to read the test for you. Save your money and buy some Internet cheapies!

I did another test yesterday morning and it looked negative. Faintest shadow of something maybe, but i'm chalking it up to line eyes as my husband couldn't see anything. Definitely nothing like the first one I posted initially.

I always use internet cheapies and have quite the stock pile Blush

After seeing a 2nd line for the first time in 18 months of trying though, I couldn't believe I was seeing a second line so picked up a digital hoping to see the word "pregnant" as confirmation. Not this time, but maybe one day.
