Miscarriage: Dr considers blood HCG negative but HPT still faint positive

I found out I was pregnant 9th July. My line progression seemed low and I had niggly paints in my right side so I went to EPU on 16th and urine there tested negative. They also gave me an internal examination that day (though it turned out the ovarian cyst I knew I had was on that side but I’d never been told which so that was likely the pains) and I started spotting which turned into bleeding on 20th. I booked a scan for 22nd and uterus was empty but lining was thick so they did HCG bloods. Results below.
22/07- HCG 154
24/07- HCG 218 (42% rise)
26/07- HCG 178 (20% drop)
They confirmed miscarriage at this point and asked me to come back in a week to make sure levels dropped. I went back today 02/08 and my HCG was right down to 8.9 which my hospital (Liverpool women’s) considers negative and I know when I had HCG done in May 2020 due to irregular cycles I was definitely not pregnant and my HCG was 5 so I guess it will still drop a little in next few days.

my question is if my levels are 8.9 why am I still getting faint positive urine tests even on cheapies. Attached pic.

Also if anyone has positive stories about successful pregnancies right after miscarriage I’d love to hear them as I’d take all the hope I can get right now 😢

Sorry for your experience. It is horrible.

I was still testing positive on pregnancy tests 5 weeks later, some pregnancy tests now days really can pick up such trace amounts.

Anyway, after my miscarriage, I conceived my DD 3 months later. She was perfect.

Currently 6 months with my second, a little boy.

There is hope after miscarriage, for most people it doesn't happen twice in a row.

Hugs.

Thank you for this. Tests became completely negative yesterday but I’ve also been testing with ovulation (lh) tests and got this… I even had EWCM and tests were getting darker as HCG became fainter and then negative but 8 days after my miscarriage was confirmed seems too soon to get peak (that would mean ovulating 9-10 days after) so I really don’t know what to think now 😓

Hmm that is strange. Is there any chance the ovulation tests were picking up HCG?

Alternatively, you could be ovulating again. There are plenty of threads on here where people have commented their experiences and they have conceived almost immediately afterwards. Your body can be a bit out of whack afterwards. My first period took nearly 6 weeks to arrive after, they went back to every 28 days after this though.

I thought that but it didn’t make sense that the LH strips were getting darker whilst the HCG were getting lighter and then going to completely negative. Going to post another question on this now. We did make sure to have sex at peak and then the day after so I guess I won’t know for sure until my period shows up or doesn’t. Think I’m going to keep tracking LH all month in case there’s a later peak though. Definitely testing negative now though x
