Late period- do I need to go to the doctors?

My period is 8 days late. Multiple pregnancy tests are negative.
No signs of period. High closed cervix, firm in the middle soft on the edges.

Do I need to go to the doctors for a blood test? We've been TTC for a while and are under a fertility clinic but i'm not sure what the protocol is with missing/late periods.

My period is never usually late. It's been late once before and that time I got what I thought was a very faint positive at around 3-4 days late. I wanted to wait a few more days and test again, but a couple of days later my period came (chemical pregnancy?)

No other lifestyle changes, stress etc.
No other symptoms.

Are you due an appointment with the fertility clinic? Which tests have you been using?

Not until the beginning of September. It'll be the first in person appointment we've had.

The tests i'm using are the internet cheapie test strips with the little blue tab at the bottom and pink control line.

You don't need to go to the doctors for a one-off late period at this stage. You may have ovulated late, or not at all. You may get a positive pregnancy test in a few days.

Wait until you're due your period again on a normal cycle (so 28 days late if your cycle is 28 days) and then if your period still doesn't show up call your GP. But I'm sure it will have done, or you'll have a positive pregnancy test.

Have u had a covid vaccine recently?

Moderna jab made my period 20days late ... I was very scared for too long!

Thegherkinpolice · 02/08/2021 15:11

Thanks all. I wasn't sure as it seemed a bit much but then a lot of threads and random websites seemed to suggest going to the doctor when I googled about it Blush

I'm blaming the covid jab then!

I’m in exactly the same situation and wasn’t sure what to do either! Period never late, no other symptoms/lifestyle changes. Negative tests but period is 6 days late.

I’ve had one covid jab but have had a period since (which actually came early).

Nuuktown · 02/08/2021 18:31

No and a doctor won’t be interested unless you’ve missed 3 periods

Not sure if it helps at all, but I did call the GP receptionist for advice. Because we've been referred on to the fertility clinic I wasn't sure if it would be relevant to them or need to be documented. I was passed on the clinic who said there's no point doing bloods or anything at all really as urine tests are just as accurate, so if the tests are negative, they're negative Confused

Essentially, the answer from them was wait it out and they'd only look into things more if a test was positive, but they couldn't find anything on a scan.

Thanks for sharing the info @Thegherkinpolice 😘

BabyFeet92 · 09/08/2021 16:28

@Thegherkinpolice has AF showed up for you yet or are you still waiting for clarity?

I'm in a similar position and it's so frustrating!

Lauren2409 · 10/08/2021 15:03

I'm in a similar position!
I'm 14 days late no AF all negative tests too.
I have PCOS and I have read that due to your hormone imbalance you can have a Number of false negative tests!

I have phoned the fertility clinic and they have advised to go through my doctor to have bloods taken to confirm if I'm pregnant or not and they will take it from there.

I've had the odd symptom I could be pregnant but I think I'm just symptom spotting!

BabyFeet92 · 10/08/2021 15:19

@Lauren2409 I hope you can get an answer soon! It's terrible to feel like you are in limbo. That's very interesting about the false negatives and PCOS. I never knew that.

I'm really trying not to get my hopes up, but it's definitely a struggle.

Lauren2409 · 10/08/2021 16:10

@BabyFeet92
I know it's so hard not to get excited. I've never missed a period so it's hard for me not too.

I've read a few things on here and when I have googled too that you can get false negatives. I read something today that a lady only got a positive through her bloods when she was 12 weeks along.

I'm clinging onto this! I need to stop because I will drive myself insane.

Thegherkinpolice · 13/08/2021 16:24

Sorry, very late in the replies here as i've been away for a few days (work, not pleasure unfortunately!)

Still no sign of AF here. It's so strange. I have never missed a period in the 21 years i've been having them.

I haven't done a pregnancy test in a while (since this thread I think) and that was negative so I've just resigned myself to the fact it's a BFN and a covid jab side effect. Next period would be due next weekend, so we'll see what happens then.

Fingers crossed for those who are hoping for a positive!

Same here @Thegherkinpolice, no missed period in 18 years! Day 48, still no sign. I normally have slightly longer cycles so my next one might not be due until about day 64 but that’s just a guess

Lauren2409 · 17/08/2021 16:18

@Thegherkinpolice I'm same boat I've never had a missed period ever. I'm due on Sunday so will see what happens.

I had an odd day spotting and cramp a week before I had my jab. So I'm not sure what to think.

I've spoke to a Few people and it's really common for people to not test positive until after their 2nd even 3rd missed period some only finding out by having a scan ... so I'm still staying a little hopeful
