Using fertility monitor before ttc

I recently picked up a Clearblue Fertility Monitor and was wondering if anyone else has used this? Specifically I am wondering if I should use it the month before we start ttc so I can get some sort of base line on what to expect with ovulation, etc.

For background - I'm 38, no children and have a pre-existing medical condition. I'm a bit concerned we have left things too late and or that my medical condition may have taken its toll. But I have spoken with my GP and they have given the go-ahead but suggest we wait a couple of months as I have just come off the hormonal contraception for health reasons.
We thought we were a bit indifferent to having kids but a recent chemical pregnancy/ false positive after having an implant removed has made us realise we do want it.
So whilst I dont have high anxiety about it I am super excited about the prospect and wondering if I'm just getting carried away.
