IVF...how many rounds did you need until success?

I'm just reading up on my options and it sounds like the chances of a success after one treatment are pretty slim, and at $15,000 a pop it's a big investment!
20% success rate at my age (40)

How many cycles did it take others before you got your sticky baby?

Hi there,

I fell pregnant on our third transfer, using eggs from our first harvest. Technically fell pregnant with two earlier transfers as well but miscarried each around eight weeks.

For context I was 35 and have PCOS, endometriosis and an underactive thyroid. Was on meds for thyroid and PCOS, healthy weight, active, non smoker etc.

Best of luck to you whatever you decide.

I budgeted for 3 cycles (unexplained secondary infertility after 2 years of trying, also 40 years old). We only managed to obtain a single usable embryo off the first cycle so I was fully expecting to be disappointed but I'm now 20 weeks and keeping my fingers crossed baby stays stuck.
I do consider myself to be extremely lucky, most people I know have had between 2-4 cycles before getting their sticky one.
Best of luck, it's not any easy decision either way.

Got pregnant on first round at age 39 (eggs were from age 38). Our two year old is now asleep on me.

I assume you’re doing ICSI and PGS, yeah? We hesitated on PGS (pre-genetic screening) due to the cost but are so happy that we did it.

*pre-implantation genetic testing

Also, typically it’s the actual IVF/ICSI and PGS that are very expensive, not the transfer. If you are able to get several healthy embryos from the first treatment, subsequent transfers should not be $15k a pop. That’s a big if, of course.

Four rounds. Miscarriage, negative, negative, live birth. Age 38.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I guess i was a little naive in thinking (hoping) that one round would be enough.
My first appointment (consult) is next week so I'll be looking to gain clarity about the costs as I'm hoping it's not 15k per treatment?!

We have 1 embryo left in the freezer from round 2. We got nowhere with the other embryos or round 1
