Coming off of cerazette

Hi all,

This is my first post so I apologise in advance if this is a rambling mess!

My fiance and I are finally trying to conceive! We've been taking Pregnacare Conception for the last 2 months, and at the end of my last pack of Cerazette (last thursday), I stopped taking it. So I have now been a week without the pill.

I think I had a withdrawal bleed on Monday, lasting until Wednesday.

However, I am just starting to spot again I think. I have been checking my cervix (sorry for TMI), it is soft and high and open, but the discharge today is a little yellow/blood stained. The past few days have been 'wet' and slightly white and stringy.

I have been doing ovulation tests but they're all completely negative.

My boobs are absolutely killing, so much so my nipples are hurting just by being touched by the bra and I have a stonking headache and weird twinges feeling in my womb.

Could this be too early for my first actual period? Or could I be due to ovulate soon? I am so confused!

I've been on cerazette for years so have no idea what my usual cycle is.

Thank you in advance and any help or guidance from you all would be amazing!

X

Welcome!

I was on cerazette for many years and came off it in October. I didn't have any bleeding until 4 and half weeks after, which I believe was a proper period. I didn't have any bleeding when on cerazette so was a bit of a shock! 😂

After my first period I started using clear blue OPKs and got a positive on day 15 and have been pretty regular, both AF and ovulation since!

Surprisingly my cycles went back to normal pretty quickly, but everyone's different.

Good luck! X

So not trying to conceive but I have experience with cerizette.

When I stopped taking it in October 2020. It took two months for my period to come back. Then there was another two month gap before it changed to between every 2 weeks 6 days to every 3 weeks and 6 days (never had regular periods before this pill). It got so bad that in April I decided to go back on the pill.

When I spoke to the doctors, they told me that it takes a while for things to readjust.

So you never know, you might be in luck but it could also be you period.

Sorry probably not the advice you were looking for

Thank you both for your replies!
Ah okay that's really interesting from both of you.
God knows basically then! 😅 I will just keep tracking and see if I come on.
This is all a minefield!

@Nursey94

I came off this at the start of Jan this year in preparation for TTC baby #2 and my first AF was 25th Feb, so basically 2 months! Then my second cycle was slightly shorter at 43 days! I think it's normal to get lots of stringy and mucus type CM for a while as your body returns to normal and hormones are all over the place. My last cycle was 33 days which is almost my normal average length of 29 days so it has basically taken 6 months to get to start being regular! I am starting TTC again next cycle 😊

Lebe14 · 09/07/2021 20:19

@Nursey94 it really is. Just have to wait and see. Re-reading about CM I actually had a massive clump (sorry if TMI!!) almost like a cervical plug after I stopped taking it! When I read up about it I saw it was quite common and normal.

My period took bloody ages to come back after stopping Cerazette. I stopped taking it on Sunday 14th March and didn't have any kind of bleeding until 28th April. 😖 It was very frustrating.

I'm now three months after stopping it and my cycles are fairly regular (I think) now 🤞🏻 There's some other posts about if if you search Cerazette x

Nursey94 · 09/07/2021 21:48

Ah thank you all!
So without sound silly and melodramatic, did anyone else worry that they wouldn't ever come on or ovulate again?
I'm petrified.
I want to enjoy this time of trying but the anal and anxious part of me is panicking already.

I'd decided I was going through the early menopause and all sorts, I think it's normal to be concerned, feel free to post here for solidarity, I remember feeling hopeless at points (sounds so dramatic now.)

Paintingfences · 09/07/2021 22:32

I just stopped taking cerazette, 3 days ago. I'm hoping things will get back to normal fairly quick coz we're actively TTC. It's nerve wracking though, I can't even remember the last time I had a period.

feliznavidad2 · 09/07/2021 22:34

Hope your periods all come back quickly 🤞🏻 one lady on the old thread got pregnant before her period even came back!

Santanomore · 09/07/2021 22:37

Just something to prepare for OP, a few weeks after I came off the pill the first time, I had terrible morning sickness type symptoms. I was so nauseous, even my DH was convinced I was pregnant. It was changes in my hormone levels after coming off the pill causing it though.

Casmama · 09/07/2021 22:57

I hope this comes across in the spirit It is meant but to be using ovulation tests within days of stopping the pill sounds a bit extreme.

I got pregnant twice after stopping cerazette and both times got my period about 6 weeks after stopping then started trying and was pregnant before having another period.
I hope you all find it so straightforward and would gently suggest you just have fun for a few months without adding the pressure of ovulation Prediction tests.

Casmama · 09/07/2021 22:58

Forgot to say, I do remember very sore boobs after stopping taking it but that was also a sign of early pregnancy for me too 🤷‍♀️

Ha that would be really fast but I dunno would I prefer it so I don't have to experience a period!! Glad yours have come back fairly regularly, its worrying reading about the long waits some people have.

I'd agree with this message, kindly.

I would let your body have a breather. And try and chill down a bit. Enjoy the sex and see how it goes.

It could happen quickly but could take a few months too. If the latter you will be exhausted from anxiety.

Personally I had issues with my periods post combined pill but they did return eventually- my body needed time.

Good luck.
