Bleeding for almost a week - any chance left at all?

Last Thursday 17th at exactly 5 weeks pgn I started spotting, and it hasn't really stopped since. It has varied in heaviness, often just brown/grainy but sometimes pinker and sometimes a bit red and watery. No clots or what I would describe as period type bleeding - it's more like a solid week of that first day your period starts. I have had some mild cramping on a few days but not needed painkillers.

I started having nausea and strong smell aversions very early on but these have started to fade. My boobs are still painful but not as much as this time last week.

I've attached some tests from recent days, they are not any lighter in colour than they were 7 days ago, but I don't know how long it would take for them to start to fade? All FMU.

I have a 6 week scan booked tomorrow and I think I already know what it will tell me Sad but I couldn't help but wonder what other people's experiences were. TIA.

Not a success story from me I'm afraid, mine was a miscarriage but a friend recently had bleeding early on and it was all fine. I scan showed a little tearing in her uterus and all is fine now.

Best of luck tomorrow x

I would definitely not try to draw any conclusions until you have your scan, I was convinced that my pregnant gone wrong because I lost all symptoms and just felt empty all of a sudden a couple of days before my scan...walked in totally prepared for the worst and basically in tears already, but it was all fine. That’s not to give you false hope because at this stage it can go either way, but with your scan so soon and your lines still being so strong I don’t think speculating will help. For what it’s worth, with my early MC my lines became faint very suddenly and quickly, definitely didn’t stay as strong as yours. Good luck 🤞

Sorry you're having an anxious and worrying time. I had bleeding from around 5 weeks to about 8 weeks, red blood and no clots, baby was fine, when they scanned, baby was fine and there was blood showing beside baby. They said it would disappear itself which it did. Hope all goes well for you x

Thank you for replying, I felt silly posting less than 24 hours until my scan, but I just have no one to talk to about it, and neither me or OH have any experience of this sort of thing at all.

I had bleeding similar to your's at 8 weeks. I did not bleed for a week. But for 3 days. The urgent care here in New York told me I was starting to miscarry. I went to my ObGYN a day later and the pregnancy was intact. It continued for 18 weeks before my cervix gave up courtesy of a D&C done 7 months earlier.

It's not over until it is. There is a lot of hope for you from me. Good luck

Hi-
A lot of people do experience implantation bleeds around that time, and sometimes have light “periods” whilst pregnant.
I don’t think (as frustrating as it is), that you can know either way before your scan.
I really hope everything is ok for you.

By way of update.
Scan showed sac and foetal pole. No evidence of areas of bleeding. Size put me between 5 and 5.5 weeks, not quite 6 as expected, so either -
a) growth stopped when the bleeding began last week, or
b) as we had IUI it's possible that conception did happen later than estimated i.e. we don't know exactly how long I took to ovulate after trigger, it's possible the sperm hung around as long as possible and met the egg at the last minute, and the egg really took its sweet time implanting. It's possible I wouldn't reach 6 weeks until next Monday at least. I have another scan booked next Wednesday.

Nurse said if I hadn't mentioned bleeding to her she wouldn't be worried by anything she had seen, beyond the slightly smaller size than expected, but obviously the bleeding is still a concern. I still think that with my fading symptoms the growth stopped when the bleeding started, but nothing to be done except wait another week to know for sure. And to stop POAS as it's not helpful (who am I kidding, won't be able to resist).

Fingers crossed to you. Best of luck. I hope it's positive news next week

Beanybob · 24/06/2021 11:18

Thank you.

I have just had a call saying they will prescribe me progesterone pessaries as well which might help with the bleeding. Another new thing to me but I will try anything at this point!

Just to say there was a little heartbeat at the scan this morning and I'm approx 6w 2d, so everything obviously just took its time in there.
A long way to go yet but just so happy to know it worked and I can get pregnant if we have to try again.
