Anyone on baby aspirin?

After several losses I am currently in a diagnosis process on blood clotting. But as I am already 37, my dr has suggested I just keep on TTC'ing in the meantime.

I am now 3DPO and have been thinking on starting on 75mg baby aspirin. I am just wondering if it can do any harm. If you happen to be on it, can I ask you when you started, and if your doctor was ok with you doing so?

Hi @davidrosejumper, I was 38 when we started ttc. I had 4 miscarriages before deciding to start myself on aspirin.

I’d had blood tests and scans with a fertility consultant, all of which came back normal.

After the fourth loss I decided enough was enough. I felt I had nothing left to lose by trying it.

The new nhs recommended dose of aspirin is 150mg daily, so I started taking it on 1dpo.

I then went onto get a bfp at 8dpo. I’m currently 27 weeks pregnant. Right from the start the pregnancy felt different. Instead of the faint lines I was used to seeing, the test lines were strong and progressed perfectly.

A scan with EPU saw a heartbeat at 5+4, something we’d never been lucky enough to see before.

At my booking appointment with the midwife I told her about taking aspirin. She checked with the consultant who said that had I not already been taking it, they’d have started me on it!

I’m still taking it now and have been told by the consultant to continue taking it until nearer birth.

I will never know if it genuinely was the aspirin, but it’s the only thing I changed and did differently.

Hi @Moominmiss, I remember you from my APS thread! So pleased to hear that you are progressing well in the pregnancy. Are they giving you regular growth scans and things? Hope the warm weather of last week wasn't too uncomfortable for you?

We have just passed the original due date of our baby, and are now full in TTC territory. Timed BD'ing, OPK tests, the works. I have been thinking of getting on the baby aspirin as soon as I get a positive on a FRER.

It seems like the 6 weeks starting point for both aspirin and heparin is the official guideline. I have been reading research on aspirin and clotting, but many papers don't say whether the people who received interventions of aspirin and heparin were already on something blood thinning before the pregnancy. So on the one hand, I want to be on aspirin to play it safe and ensure my blood is a good consistency. On the other hand, I am hesitant to do something that has not been suggested by my doctor, hence thread.

@davidrosejumper sorry to hear of your losses.

I found a thread about aspirin from ovulation very useful, where @Moominmiss and others shared their experiences.

I have experienced 3 early losses, between 4-6 weeks. I was on the list for NHS investigations but knew that would take a while. After doing some research I started 150mg aspirin from ovulation in the next cycle. I believed this would be better for me than waiting for a BFP as something seem to be going wrong at an early stage. I had just had an appt with a private clinic when I found out I was pregnant again. Fingers crossed things are ok so far, I am 9 weeks so a long way to go but the furthest I have got. A week after finding out the private consultant got in touch to say all my tests, including for blood clotting had come back clear but recommended aspirin (he didn't know I was already taking it) plus progesterone. Clearly I am not a dr so can't advise taking medication and I didn't have any underlying medical reason why I couldn't take it. That being said I think the aspirin has made a difference. I got a positive at 9dpo and it progressed quickly and was doing well prior to getting the progesterone at around 5/6 weeks. Midwife has told me to continue to 36 weeks. Good luck with your TTC journey!

I've been doing some googling on this and can't find any helpful advice either way on the internet. Very frustrating.

@Catmum55566, I am really sorry to hear of your losses, too. It is wonderful to read you are currently pregnant, and further along than every before.

Thanks so much for your tip. I found the thread, and it was indeed very helpful!

My ivf consultant told me there's no harm in taking baby aspirin from ovulation, from my latest BFP (I've had 2 MCs) I was told to up dose to 150mg by my midwife & GP. I lost that one too & have been prescribed fragmin from a BFP & aspirin from OV so no harm as I see it
Good luck!
