How to choose a vasectomy reversal clinic

Just wondering if anyone had any advice on this? They all seem to sell themselves as the best (obviously) but I am not sure how to actually choose. Does it really make a massive difference which one you choose? Do we just go for the nearest one to our house?

DH is 30 and had the vasectomy just under 5 years ago. I am 32 and we conceived DS 6 years ago without issue.

Hello!

Firstly it sounds like the odds are in your favour, only being 5 years since your partners vasectomy usually means good success rates!

Me and my partner just went to the nearest ptivate clinic which for us was Spire. Met with a surgeon, he was very informative and explained everything and he had been in the field a number of years. Did a bit of research on him, he specialised in a number of things so went with him. He carried out a microsurgical vasectomy reversal on my dp (this is the best option).
, which worked after 13 years!! Been ttc for almost 2 years but we have a few other things affecting that.

Good luck

Thanks bean :) I am hopeful that given the short time period, our ages and the fact that we had DS with no issues will give us a good chance at success. A Spire is our nearest one so will take a good look at that.

Fingers crossed for you!

I hear very good things about Jonathan Ramsey. We didn't use him as I hadn't heard of him at the time, but I do wish we had! Good luck x

You are the second person to recommend Mr Ramsay law so have dropped him an email. Hope you have had success? :)

@Themostwonderfultimeofyear sadly not, but the chances were low as DH's vasectomy was 10 years before the reversal. I do wish we had done much more research and found a better urologist. He got a horrible infection afterwards and it was really badly handled. One thing I would suggest is ask about surgical sperm retrieval at the same time as the reversal. That way if the reversal doesn't work, you'll have some sperm frozen which you can use for IVF. There is an added expense in terms of the surgery and freezing costs, but I think it's worth doing. We have some on ice and will be starting IVF soon, in fact I have my first appointment next week! If you want to check out Mr Ramsey, he is interviewed on one of the very early BFN podcasts. Good luck! X
