Miscarriage, still showing positive pregnancy test 3 weeks after

I found out I was pregnant with twins about 6 weeks ago, unfortunately they shared they same placenta and the smaller twin was a week behind in growth. It was suspected the smaller twin wouldn’t survive and unfortunately 2 weeks after finding out, I suffered a silent miscarriage of them both. It was totally heartbreaking finding that both their heartbeats had stopped at my next scan.
I was booked in for a surgical management to remove them as my body wasn’t doing it on its own. As mentally traumatic as the procedure was, it went smoothly with no complications. I was told to take a pregnancy test 3 weeks afterwards to make sure they hadn’t left any remains which would cause a positive result. This morning I took the test, to find a faint positive.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it likely that due to the miscarriage I’m still showing HCG in my wee and I need to give it time, or is it common that some has been left behind?

I really don’t want to go through the procedure all again :(

@Claudiarose6 definitely call the EPU - this happened to me, I had to have another scan which showed that I still had retained products so had to go through further surgical management under GA. everything is okay now though so don’t worry!

So so sorry for your loss x deff call them tomorrow and see what they say xx

Aww hun I'm so sorry you've gone through this. So so sorry. I was still having positive pregnancy tests after my miscarriage and unfortunately for me it meant retained product. So I was quick into hospital for surgical management under a general. Did you have a general anaesthetic for yours? In my case I felt I left it too long to go back to gp to get referred to the hospital, my positive tests were 2 months after the MC. I wish I'd had the surgery much sooner So I could start the recovery sooner. Keep us posted, sending love and strength xxx

So sorry for your loss. I'm currently waiting for a negative and I'm desperate to get to the three week mark and see it, but dreading a positive because I fear it will mean going back in again, sounds like EPU may need to check if there's anything and it may be that your levels are dropping just not as fast as they should x all the best x

@claudiarose6, I was in a similar position last month after losing twins at approximately 8 weeks 4 days. I had an MVA at 11 weeks and was still getting a positive pregnancy test after 3 weeks.

When I spoke to the hospital they said it may take a while longer for the HCG levels to drop with it being twins.

I was also worried about retained products but my test turned negative at about 3 and a half weeks.

Hopefully it will be the same for you and we will both have better luck next time.

I had a positive test for probably about 4 weeks at least after my mmc surgery. It didn't mean retained products for me it just took that long for my HCG to drop.

Glad I'm on this thread now because I was getting worked up that it may still show positive in another week ( 3 weeks after MC) . Guess we're all different.
I definitely have high levels because it comes up so quickly and dark every time 😢
