Baby aspirin after miscarriage

We have had 4 chemicals in the last 5 cycles so are currently having a break for 2 cycles to let my body rest in the hope this makes a difference.
I have seen a lot of comments on here about people trying baby aspirin after miscarriages.
I spoke to my Dr about trying it and he said no as it’s more likely to cause a miscarriage then prevent one.
At another appointment I saw a different Dr who recommended we try take it on our next cycle.
Obviously now I am so confused 🤷‍♀️ in a way I think I feel like what do we have to lose by trying it...
Just wondered if anyone had had any experiences taking it they could share? X

I had 4 miscarriages in the last 12 months of ttc. I saw a fertility specialist where we had all sorts of tests, scans etc and partner had semen analysis. All great.

During my fourth loss I did loads of research into aspirin and decided that I was willing to try anything as I felt by this point I had nothing to lose.

I took 150mg (the new nhs recommended dose) from 1dpo and at 8dpo I got my bfp.

Amazingly at 5+4 I had a scan with EPU where we saw a heartbeat - more than we ever saw with the losses.

At my midwife booking appointment at 9 weeks she checked with a consultant about me being on the aspirin and he confirmed had I not already been taking it he would have started me on it. I am now to stay on it until a few weeks before delivery.

I have since spoken to lots of women who have taken it for the same reason and it’s helped them stay pregnant. There is evidence also to suggest it can actually aid implantation.

Obviously I can’t advise you to take it as I’m not a medical professional, but if like me you feel you’re at a point with nothing to lose then I’d give it a try. For me it worked and I’m now coming up 20 weeks pregnant!

I'm sorry for your losses @Icklemissgem I've had about 5 chemicals in the past 9 months and tried aspirin from fertile week for 2 months, one month I took 75mg and the next I tried 150mg. I believe both months ended with chemicals and although they went on a bit longer they still ended.

I've heard conflicting stories that taking aspirin from fertile week / ovulation can result in miscarriages and others advising to start from fertile week / ovulation. Not great when you're trying to decide what to do!

But it has seemed to work for some people like the above poster, whether by coincidence or not. I've stopped taking it as I don't think it's helping so this is my first cycle free of aspirin, will see how it goes.

@Moominmiss thank you for your reply and congratulations! I am so pleased all has worked out for you 🥰
I am so unsure what to do but I do kind of think I have got nothing to lose so I may as well give it a try and hope for the best!!

@choccrumpet hi - I think we have spoken previously on another thread 😊
So sorry the aspirin hasn’t worked for you 😞
I think I am just going to give it a try and just see what happens as I think I might always thing ‘what if’ I gave it a try! It’s all so confusing 😞😞

@Icklemissgem hello I don’t have any experience with this but I’m also toying with the idea after 3 miscarriages. Im so sorry for your losses and hope you don’t mind me commenting so I can see the responses xx

Icklemissgem · 29/04/2021 17:50

Sorry your losses @MsK89.
It’s so hard to know what to do for the best isn’t it! I think next cycle I am going to try it and see what happens as I figure how can the outcome be any worse than what’s happened to me already 🤷‍♀️ Xx

Hi @Icklemissgem yes we have! In terms of giving it a try, I had no side effects, my periods were normal, maybe a little more flowy so from what I could tell, it was okay for me to take just didn't help unfortunately. So it's up to you of course and hopefully it will help! 🤗

DappledOliveGroves · 29/04/2021 18:50

I've had two miscarriages in a row and had a consultant appointment last week privately. She advised no aspirin until 6 weeks pregnant but has prescribed clexane instead to be used from positive pregnancy test I believe.

Sorry to hear about your losses @Icklemissgem.

I am in a similar position to you, 3 early losses in 5 cycles also, since November. After the 2nd I decided to try asprin from ovulation. The cycle I did this, we didn't get a bfp. However the cycle after I was unwell just after ovulation so didn't start taking it until a BFP. I think it was too late to be effective as my lines were faint to begin with. I am going to try it from ovulation this cycle. Obviously there is conflicting advice but I feel like I want to try something whilst waiting for further investigations.

Icklemissgem · 30/04/2021 10:55

@DappledOliveGroves sorry for your losses and fingers crossed for this cycle.

@Catmum55566 sorry for your losses 😞 it's so horrible isn't it. I feel the same our appointment isn't until June and I feel like I am just playing a waiting game until then really. I think me and my husband have decided to definitely give the baby aspirin a try next cycle from ovulation. Did you take the recommended 150mg or less? X

Catmum55566 · 01/05/2021 13:14

@Icklemissgem I took 150mg. However I think I might have an early issue as 2 of my bfps only lasted a week, which is making me think I need to try it from ovulation. I am currently waiting on ovulation, so fingers crossed I will be starting it soon. I ovulate late, e.g. between day 20 -28 so I think that could also be an issue. Let me know how you get on, hopefully it will be a BFP that sticks soon!

IloveGod2 · 02/05/2021 19:17

@Icklemissgem sorry for your losses and to everyone else. I've had 2 mc since jan. Took 150mg aspirin second time but that ended earlier than the first. I'm now gonna change and add supplements to help body and egg quality and try after 2nd af. I think mines is an egg thing. Not to sure however took aspirin from bfp🤷‍♀️

cheeseisthebest · 02/05/2021 19:19

I had pre eclampsia with my first pregnancy and to help avoid it again took baby aspirin everyday for my second. Second baby was born full term.

ELM7 · 02/05/2021 19:33

I have had 2 miscarriages and had a consultation (as was referred due to it being a year since first MC but between referral and appointment we got pregnant and had a second MC) and I was advised to take 150mg aspirin everyday (not just after ov) in the hope of preventing another MC - I was only given this advise in March and we have yet to get another BFP so can’t tell you if it will work just that it’s the advice given by a Dr.

IloveGod2 · 03/05/2021 18:18

@cheeseisthebest hi hun hope you dont mind me asking. At what point did the blood test get carried out and when did you take the aspirin and till when. Also can you share the one you purchased please. Thank you

@cheeseisthebest sorry to jump in on this thread, i had pre eclampsia first time as well. We are ttc #2 after mc as well. Did you take aspirin while ttc or only after you got bfp. Im waiting to speak to gp but was just wondering.
cheeseisthebest · 03/05/2021 20:01

Oh gosh I can't remember was 10 years ago. I think I started taking it once I'd had a positive test and it was self prescribed but Dr was happy for me to take it. Was junior aspirin and I took one every day.
My daughter was born 9 weeks early (now a teenager) and my son was 9 days late.

cheeseisthebest · 03/05/2021 20:02

So no didn't take it when ttc but I'm very lucky to have never had a miscarriage. Just unlucky to have a prem baby.
