Post ovulation to period spotting and pms - possible hormone imbalance?

Spotting from post ovulation to period, pink, brown and red. Then a few days with nothing before period starts. Really bad pms, fatigue, nausea. I've been to GP and I have had bloods, scan on ovaries and uterus, smear and now due a colposcopy but due to focus my appointment was cancelled and have just been left on a waiting list for months. I'm convinced that this is hormonal but GP won't do bloods on hormones before colposcopy, even when I rang to push for it. They said just wait for colposcopy first. Stopped pill last August so don't think it's that. Trying to conceive for 8 months and I don't think it's a good thing for that either. Long story short, I'm sick of bleeding for 2 weeks of the month and feeling rubbish. Anyone experience anything similar ? Anything that would help get my GP on board ? Thanks !!!

Hi, I was having spotting a few days before my period, and my GP has agreed to run blood tests next month - I'm not entirely sure what they're testing but he said it sounded like a poss hormonal imbalance.
In the meantime I've been going to acupuncture and taking soy isoflavones, and the spotting went away last cycle. Its only been one cycle, so I can't say its not a coincidence, but I'm glad for any change.

Thank you! Did you have the same difficulty as me getting the blood tests ? How did you get them to agree to them?
I'll also look into things that may help calm me and de-stress.

Following this with interest OP as I have exactly the same, for the last 3 months I’ve spotted about 5DPO until about 9 DPO and then nothing until I come on my period at 14DPO.

I’m on a fertility Facebook group and there was a girl on there who had the same thing and it turned out she had polyps on her cervix, apparently this is a common symptom of Polyps on the cervix.

I had a 21 day blood test a couple of months ago and all came back fine, I don’t know if they checked for anything else other than progesterone but my progesterone levels were good then.

At lead you’ve had initial tests done. You could always go private for the blood test maybe? I too am not conceiving and am convinced it’s related to this.. but if it is polyps, apparently it’s quite common to not be able to conceive until they’ve been removed.

@Chacha2021 it’s been six months since my miscarriage and I’m over 35, so GP agreed to take a look. Interesting about polyps @Havanna1 there’s so many things to consider! I had an ‘MOT’ scan to check at the EPU after and I didn’t have any polyps etc then but doesn’t mean they haven’t grown.
I was trying to book a private fertility assessment with a scan and full bloods, but they were so busy a month or so ago when I was trying to get tests, so starting with the GP first

It's at least interesting to know I'm not alone! I've felt so alone in all this. I managed to get them to take me seriously because I started to get puddles of blood during intercourse as well and this always happened on ovulation day. So that's when they ran bloods, checked my cervix, made sure my smear was up to date and scanned my ovaries and uterus and all came back fine. I stopped proceive tablets because I noticed that this blood started at the same time as me taking them and haven't experienced it since(it's not bad stuff, just must be a vitamin in there that was too strong for me). However, have continued to experience the awful pms and bleeding as you describe. Interesting it could be polyps and I have polyps in my nose and sinuses, so then I wouldn't be surprised if there were polyps else where. Shame the hospital cancelled my appointment to check for them and then had just left me in limbo because it's non urgent. I'm 34 so it's a bit annoying as if I were a year older they would probably take it more seriously. Like you say, it's probably the reason why after 8 months nothing is happening.

@Chacha2021 that really doesn’t sound right, especially the puddles of blood. Could you go private for a polyp check, I’m not sure how much that would cost?
TBF I think I’m only getting blood tests, I’ve read about awful backlogs for the other fertility checks and semen analysis etc. We will be going private if we need more work

Chacha2021 · 30/04/2021 12:15

Oh 100%. They have taken this seriously as they straight away got me into blood tests and other tests but now they are happy it can't be anything dangerous is going on, I'm on the waiting list and counted as non urgent for the Coloscospy (can't write it !) the hospital cancelled my appointment and haven't given me another date. I spoke to the GP and they said they can't do anything to make it quicker. Private is not an option. Don't have the money for that unfortunately. Plus I don't believe I should have to go private. It's not right. I'll keep pushing! Thanks anyway 🤗

@Chacha2021 how are things now?

Chacha2021 · 30/08/2024 18:57

I don't even remember writing this been so long haha. Ended up having the blood due to an ectropian on my cervix and that seems to have fixed itself over time. The IVF doc said that the spotting before period could be normal and sign of perhaps low progesterone, so I would need support to get pregnant. 4 years after starting, I have gone through IVF rounds, loss from IVF but finally I have fallen pregnant and thankfully getting the progesterone I need, still early - so hoping it goes ok this time ! Been quite a journey!
Thanks for asking ☺️

@Chacha2021 congratulations! And just wanted to wish you luck and health for your pregnancy.

@Nomoreplease2016 the acupuncturist also told me it was likely to be low progesterone. I actually got pregnant the month I wrote these posts
