Coming off the pill not TTC yet

Hi, just wanted to see if anyone else was in the same boat as me and what your experiences have been really!

I'm 27 and don't have any children yet, been on the pill (rigevidon) for 9 years. Me and my partner decided we would TTC towards the end of the year. I came off the pill at the start of March to give me some time to adjust and get to know my cycles before then since I can't remember at all what they were like before Confused

Anyone else in a similar position? When did you get your first true AF after the pill? Most of the posts on here are for those already ttc so thought I'd start this to speak to others that aren't quite there yet Grin

I did this in 2018. Came off hbc beginning of the year to give my body some time to adjust and learn how it all works.
My first cycle was short, prob around 4 weeks and then the went really long. I started temping from the beginning so I knew when I ovulated. I also took Agnus castus to help hormones regulate, this worked great and my cycles settled at around 32-36 days. I read the booking Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler and learnt so much. I highly recommend this book.

Me! I am 30 and came of the mini pill, Cerelle, in February. I had my withdrawal bleed 3 weeks to the day later! No plans to TTC quite yet as wanted to try and figure out my cycle first. I started OPKs and got my peak a couple of days ago (day 14) for this cycle. Will see when my AF appears as like you, I have no idea what my cycle was before and no idea how long it is now!

Hi @Qwerty26 I am 28 and we have been ttc since last august. I came off my pill in July after having been on it for 10 years or so and my first period started a few days later as was expected in the pill free week. My first few cycles were short, around 26 days or even a bit shorter than that and eventually began settling on 28 days although I've had a few longer ones in between.

I think I'm ovulating a bit late into my cycle / it's not consistent which is difficult when ttc so it's a good time for you to start learning these things about your body, if you're interested in that and don't know them already 🤗

Check about the post-pill party threads - there's about 5 of them now, plenty to keep you going 😊 personally my cycles are still all over the place after 10 months, but others have got back to normality much sooner and plenty of BFPs on those threads too...

Wow I wasn't expecting many responses, such a nice community to be part of :) I am pretty new to all this so haven't really looked into too much yet but I'll have to check out that book, I have seen a few people mention it!

@Trinacham CD14 with a peak sounds pretty good for the first real cycle! I took my last pill 3rd March and had a withdrawal bleed shortly after. But nothing since, I'm only CD20 though but I have been using OPK and no peak yet..

@choccrumpet I think I would welcome a short first few cycles just so I know where I'm at! Took ovulation tests from right after my withdrawal as I didn't want to miss ovulation if it happened (I know some women don't ovulate right away after the pill). CD20 and no peak, I have had cramps as if I'm going to come on though but who knows! Have your OPKs been gradually getting darker? Mine are all over the place, dark one day and barely there the next?!

@lawandgin Thank you, I'll have to have a look at those! Just need people to chat to about all of this as I think my OH is already sick of me asking if my OPK test line looks darker than yesterday hahah. Just finding all of this so interesting learning about my body after so many years. It's shameful really how much I don't know about my own cycle at nearly 30!!

I came off Cerelle on the 15th :) it's probably not what you're looking for as we're going to TTC pretty quick, but we are waiting till April, then going to take is easy for the first few months and see what happens. I haven't had a withdrawal bleed yet, but I saw in one of the other threads that there were a lot of women who didn't get it and just had a period a month later, and also some that didn't get anything at all for a couple/few months. My ideal would be to get pregnant before I have any bleeding as I hate periods so much 😂 I haven't had one for around 12 years.

lawandgin · 25/03/2021 22:26

Qwerty26 oh I know, my DH is the same, although our situation is slightly different. I'm nearly 33 and honestly ashamed I knew so little about my own fertility. I will be making sure I talk to my children about it a lot more, should I be so lucky to have any!

NoCallerID · 26/03/2021 07:04

Ahhh ladies, obviously don't know you or your other half's.... but.... having been in the ttc business for a long time now, unless it's a pregnancy test - don't involve them. Most men don't want to know about cycles and OPK, there's an immense pressure to perform (thankfully any pressure is ever only on men 🙄😅).

choccrumpet · 26/03/2021 08:34

@Qwerty26 to be honest, 8 months after stopping my pill and I'm no clearer as to when I ovulate! They have been all over the place last 2 months. I finally got my peak on CD19 which is quite late in my cycle. I've had a few early losses so that may have something to do with it. Sounds like you're doing the right thing for you, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it soon enough 🤗
