Hi all,
Me and my partner have been TTC for almost 2 years now, just looking for some friends in a similar situation. I am currently undergoing fertility testing. My partner has super sperm so it would appear that the problem lies with me. I also have adenomyosis, however I was told that this does not neccessarily affect fertility. Yesterday I had a HSG test, which was quite unpleasant, I experienced really bad cramps which I am told can mean I have blocked fallopian tubes, although the doc that performed the procedure said everything looked good. Just waiting on results. Anyone else experiencing any similar situations?
TIA
Lasagne30

@maw16 I had HSG on day 9 x

maw16 · 25/05/2021 22:20

@ljayc thanks! Did you try the same month and can you remember if you ovulated quite soon after? Sorry about all the questions, feeling a bit nervous! X

ljayc · 25/05/2021 22:39

Oh don’t worry, ask away!
Yes I ovulated (on CD16), but I always do, and always around days 14-16. Ovulation has never been the issue for me… I’ve no idea what the actual issue is 🤷🏼‍♀️ x

Lasagne30 · 25/05/2021 22:51

@maw16 I had mine done day 12 but I think I missed my chance that month because I may have ovulated earlier than usual. I didn't get any signs that I normally notice that month so I don't know what happened 🤷‍♀️
They say to wait a couple of days before having sex to avoid infection as well.
I'm sure you'll be fine.
It's not the most comfortable test but I've had worse haha Make sure to ask if the results were normal, did the dye spill out, any noticeable blockages, otherwise you'll be left wondering until your next follow up which is super annoying lol

OP posts:
ljayc · 25/05/2021 23:01

@maw16 Yes, my HSG was actually okay, just a bit uncomfortable, but not painful. Like @Lasagne30 said, the worst bit was waiting ages for the results.

maw16 · 26/05/2021 05:59

Thanks for the tip! The clinic have said they will discuss my results immediately after the test which is great, so just hoping I ovulate after so we can still try this month!

ljayc · 27/05/2021 06:19

That’s good then. Is your appointment quite soon? I know what you mean about not wanting to miss out on trying that month, even though it’s only 1 month (or longer if your cycles are so long!), they go by really quickly and before you know it, it’s been a year x

maw16 · 03/06/2021 11:14

@ljayc @Lasagne30 I just had my hycosy this morning! It was actually fine, I don’t know what I was worried about! There was just a bit of pressure and slight cramping but stopped as soon as they finished the procedure. Good news is, the dye spilled out very quickly showing my tubes are nice and open Smile. He did say I don’t have an obvious dominant follicle yet so could still be a few days away from ovulation so he said to keep tracking to make sure the letrozole has worked. We have another appointment this afternoon with the private clinic to get their opinion on my NHS treatment plan. How are you both?

maw16 · 03/06/2021 11:15

@ljayc oh and yes forgot to mention that they said we can still try this month as I haven’t ovulated yet! So that’s a bonus as I really didn’t want to skip

ljayc · 03/06/2021 15:50

@maw16 that’s good, glad it all went okay and tubes are clear! Hopefully you’ll have some luck this month then. I’ve just started on my second month of clomid so will just keep trying and hoping x

ljayc · 17/06/2021 05:20

Hey @Lasagne30 @maw16
How are things going?
I’ve been for blood tests to check egg reserve levels (which came back as normal) and I received a pack of paperwork from the assisted conception unit with an initial appointment which was yesterday (much sooner than expected as I was told it would likely be around Aug time). It was the same consultant that I’ve had throughout that picked up her own referral (not sure how that works) but in a way it was good as she was up to speed with everything so we weren’t having to repeat things. She advised me to just start the IVF sooner rather than try for another 4 months on clomid as the success rates for clomid are so low, especially as I know I am already ovulating. IVF only has a 30-35% success rate for my age bracket apparently, but that’s much higher chance than the clomid whilst I’m still under 35 apparently. So we’ve both got to go for more bloods (blood borne virus checks this time) and I should get a call in the next 2 weeks from a nurse who will book me in for the next stages apparently 😱 I’d really hoped I wouldn’t reach this point but here we are!

maw16 · 17/06/2021 07:20

@ljayc I know the feeling of not wanting to reach the IVF stage but try and see it as exciting! That’s good that they’ve it’s moving quickly as well, I have everything crossed for you! We saw a private consultant (£200 an hour 😳) and he basically told me to stay on letrozole until the end of the year and then we’ll look at ‘plan B’ which is IVF. Feeling a bit deflated as I don’t think I ovulated this month despite the letrozole so might need to up the dose again next cycle

Lasagne30 · 17/06/2021 07:26

@ljayc Hiya,
Sorry I've been a bit absent of late, I have been on holidays for the last month and the reception is quite sketchy haha Oh well thats good that you've got a good healthy egg selection! Oh wow they really did push that through quite quickly for you didn't they?! I suppose if thats what they recommend for your age group, no point wasting more time. I suppose you may be seeing results before most us...I guess its exciting and sad at the same time that it has come to that.
Myself on the other hand, I take my first pill of my second lot of Chlomid tomorrow, because like clockwork, old AF came a knockin' today.
Do you know what the % success rate for Chlomid is for your age bracket? It can't be very high if IVF is much higher and thats only 35%.
I have a feeling that she may say the same thing to me on my next follow up on the 29th because I too, know that I am ovulating.
Why can't it just be easyyy??!! All the pieces are there and working, so whats the go? Hmm
Makes me loopy haha

@maw16
I would guess that they're in no rush for you because of your age, us 30's and over are more important because we are shrivelling quicker than you 😂
If you don't laugh, you'll cry 🤭

OP posts:
maw16 · 17/06/2021 08:47

@Lasagne30 if I had a penny for every consultant that said “you have time”, I’d be able to pay for an IVF round 🤣. He said our IVF rate of success will be around 50-60% IF it does come to that so it’s looking like another 6 months of letrozole + metformin for me

Sparrowsong · 17/06/2021 09:01

The immune system could be a factor! If overactive it can cause miscarriage and also prevent implantation. Many women find success taking immune suppressants, where nothing else worked. I’ve been tested, have high natural killer cells so starting mine next week!

There is always an explanation, don’t be fobbed off. The ‘pred threads’ on MN explain more if you think it might be relevant to you.

Lasagne30 · 03/07/2021 10:47

So I went to my follow up appointment and because I hadn't gotten around to doing a day21 progesterone test (I was in the middle of the desert at the time on holidays-which was just bad timing lol) she didn't want to up my prescription for Chlomid just yet until they can see how my body is reacting to it. So I am on my second cycle currently, but I think I am experiencing some side effects. I get night sweats every night and really tender boobs. But if thats the worst of it I'll be cheering haha
However I have a big move coming up in the next month, we are moving to the other side of the country for work, so I am hoping to get a follow up app. before we go so she can up my dosage and I can go from there. Not sure what the system is like over in the new state so kinda want to get it sorted.
How is everyone else going?

OP posts:
maw16 · 04/07/2021 19:17

@Lasagne30 good luck with your move! Night sweats have been my biggest killer at the moment as well - not too much to complain about I suppose!

Had to take provera this month as I didn’t ovulate for some reason so they’re also upping my letrozole dose to a triple so 7.5mg. Do you still do OPKs whilst on clomid?

Lasagne30 · 04/07/2021 22:17

@maw16
Thanks, I'm a little bit nervous moving away from all our family and friends! Wow triple! Does that increase the chances of multiples because you might be looking at triplets!? Haha
I sometimes use them, I had a positive last month with one but before that I could never get a proper read, I use CM to get a guage and the doc says that thats a better indicator for me to use if I can't get positives with a OPK. I would always get a line but it just wasn't quite dark enough to call positive and then the next day it would be gone, so maybe I have a very short window of ovulation. But we do know I'm ovulating. Who knows!
Is that how you determined you didnt ovulate or did you get a d21 test?

OP posts:
maw16 · 04/07/2021 22:33

@Lasagne30 I don’t blame you for being nervous but I’m sure it will be fine, plus it means when you do see family and friends it will be more quality time e.g. whole weekend away etc due to distance rather than a short stopover which is always nice!

From what I’ve been told there’s less likelihood of multiples with letrozole but if there is a chance of more eggs at least it means more of a shot 🤣 which I’ll take at this point haha. OPK’s aren’t great for me either, I tend to get a lot of positives but as long as your ovulating I guess it doesn’t matter!

I didn’t have a d21 this cycle as I ovulated the last two cycles so they just assumed I would again so no idea why I didn’t - the consultant just said it’s bad luck and that as I’m on CD45 with no period and negative pregnancy tests I couldn’t have so I’ve taken provera to force a bleed and then I’ll take a triple letrozole dose. Hopefully this is the magic number for me!

Lasagne30 · 04/07/2021 22:48

@maw16
Yeah I suppose so, if my work allowed time off for Christmas I would be cheering but no, not for me.
Oh God, can you imagine-3 babies! Hectic. 2 would be a handful lol
45 is sooo loonngg! Wow! I am 28-30 on the dot every month.
Ah okay I was going to ask what Provera did.
Fingers crossed for you!
I have a d21 test on Wednesday so I can take that back to the doc and get a dosage increase. A bit annoying that I have to go back aggaaiinnn but ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

OP posts:
maw16 · 05/07/2021 11:31

@Lasagne30 that sucks that you don’t get any time off at Christmas! We had my niece and nephew over the weekend and it definitely gave me an insight into twin life haha. Fortunately my consultant said the multiples risk is low with letrozole and on a double dose I still only released one egg!

Tell me about it! I’m itching to start a new cycle now! Just want to start a fresh but it’s taking forever! I keep having dreams that I’m pregnant as well which aren’t nice to wake up to lol.

Wednesday isn’t too far away! Do you get your results back quite quickly at your clinic? That’s infertility for you..A LOTA of tests and waiting! We should have the patience of a Saint at this point haha

maw16 · 07/07/2021 09:24

@Lasagne30 But if a TMI question as well but when does everyone count CD1? I was spotting ever so slightly on Monday and the same on Tuesday (just wore a thin liner but it was mainly when I went to the bathroom). Then Tuesday evening it turned into more of a flow and now Wednesday it is full flow. When would you count CD1 to take letrozole/clomid in your case?

Lasagne30 · 07/07/2021 10:12

@maw16
Yeah, its a retail thing unfortunately, a lot of places don't allow it. Haha atleast you can give those ones back! Yep, got it done today, bruised like a soft little peach too haha Yeah results are usually quite quick, couple of days max.
Speaking of TMI haha I'm in my 2ww at the moment, and Ive actually had so much discharge, never had so much, and its constant, like all day I can feel it soaking through, its mental! I wonder if its a side effect from the Chlomid?
SO! This is not a straight forward answer. I have been told multiple things from multiple doctors.
One told me that if you have spotting for 2 days and then full flow, the first day of spotting is classified as your day 1. Then I had another tell me that day 1 is classified as your first day of full flow.
Personally, I usually spot for 1 day max, and I mean I only ever see it when I go to the bathroom so its not heavy AT ALL, then I get 2 hours of horrible cramps and heavier flow starts right after. Basically when the cramps start, I count that as my day 1 haha
I would count Tuesday as the day 1 but that's just me 🤷‍♀️
So they say to have sex days 10-17 after you take the pills day 2-5 right which is 5 days post last pill, one would assume that if you 'actually' took it days 3-6 you would just have sex days 11-18 which is still 5 days post last pill, if you know what I mean?
I dont know, the more I write it the less it makes sense 🤣🤣

@Lasagne30 ah that makes sense, that’s a shame during the holidays!

Oh blimey your arm is pretty bruised! Keep us updated with your results!! I can’t speak for clomid re discharge but after ovulation I tend to get quite a bit on letrozole for a few days so could be the cause? It might be a good sign meaning that you’ve ovulated!

Yeah there seems to be no clear answer on cycle days and just for more confusion, my flow has been almost non existent this afternoon?! I’m going to wait to see if it picks up tomorrow and I’ll take letrozole tomorrow if it does.

I know what you mean, I was told to keep having sex all the way up to at least CD 21!
