Hi guys, I am new here this is my first post! I am trying for my first baba. I had a heartbreaking miscarriage beginning of the year. We are just seeing how things go (unprotected sex regular). I had a bottle of wine (9 units) two nights ago due to good news (outside of pregnancy) however I this morning I have had spotting (9dpo) could be implantation bleeding? I am worried the wine will affect me if I am pregnant?? Please help :(

The wine will not affect a single thing. Don't worry.

Whatwouldido · 26/02/2021 22:57

You’re absolutely fine at this stage, dont stress. I drank 1.5 bottles of wine on a boozy day in the sun 2 days before a positive test as didn’t think I’d be pregnant!

SmidgenofaPigeon · 26/02/2021 22:58

Won’t have made a scrap of difference whatsoever.

DramaAlpaca · 26/02/2021 23:01

Don't worry, it's far too early for alcohol to have any effect as the placenta won't have formed yet. I remember having the same worry after a couple of large gin and tonics before I knew I was pregnant, but everything was fine. I didn't touch alcohol for the rest of my pregnancy.

My 4 day hangover after an extremely boozy 2 day wedding turned out to be my now 10 year old daughter. This was after a previous miscarriage so I totally get your stress and worry. Good luck with the pregnancy x

amberorangeroses · 26/02/2021 23:09

Thanks for all the reassurance guys! Its hard not to worry especially after a miscarriage! X

I had a few drinks before I knew I was pregnant. Asked my doctor about it and he said that before implantation the zygote is not attached to the mother's bloodstream so no danger whatsoever. The baby is now in his late 20s and in perfect health.

amberorangeroses · 26/02/2021 23:18

Thats great to hear, thank you!

Personally I didn't drink in the tww while ttc, but you do you.

Luckingfovely · 26/02/2021 23:21

Just to add to the chorus - I once had a terrible hangover, which then turned into a sickness bug, after a rather large blowout one weekend... and I now have a very healthy teenager who is taller than me Smile don't worry, it's fine, and happens all the time.

amberorangeroses · 26/02/2021 23:30

Thats lovely, thank you x

I went on the biggest bender - I’m talking buckets of alcohol, cigarettes, shots, the lot. It was a street party/festival that spread over 2 days and I partied my arse off. Turns out I was 4 weeks pregnant I was soso scared! How could that much alcohol affect the baby? I had bad anxiety over it.

...I’m currently lying next to my 1 year old. The most perfect little being. Best personality and so funny. Completely unharmed. So don’t worry. A bottle of wine at that early stage will have been fine so don’t panic yourself. I drank enough to sink a ship and we’re ok 🤣

SnowyBranches · 26/02/2021 23:34

The very first time I posted on MN was 2006, with the exact same question - I had drunk a fair amount of wine, and then found out I was pregnant. I was also told not to worry, and there were no problems at all. DS now 13!
I know loads of women who got pregnant on their honeymoons, and they were drinking.

hopsalong · 26/02/2021 23:36

@AbstractHeart
Yes, you do do. In that awful phrase. What can your not drinking while planning to get pregnant possibly have to contribute to this story?!

My first DC was unplanned and I also got absolutely shitfaced (and smoked a lot of fags and a bit of weed) while in the very early stages of pregnancy. It just doesn't affect the pregnancy in the early stages. Please don't worry a second more. The body is cunning. I only realized I was pregnant when the morning sickness set in and prevented further escapades of that kind.

My second DC was planned and I didn't touch a drop etc. It made no difference. In fact DC1 has always been healthier and more robust than DC2, and is also much more obviously academic.

Thank you!! I had some wine for the first time this year because I finally received some good news (especially after a miscarriage). I wasn’t expecting spotting this morning, so thank you for the support! Its nice some people had the same experience xx

After the spotting this morning (9dpo) I will definitely not be drinking again! I am hopeful for the bfp in a week. I wasn’t expecting anything so soon after a miscarriage but fingers crossed. Thanks so much for everyones kind words and stories they’ve really helped my worries! Xx
