Yes - you can't get false positives ONLY false negatives cos you have to be giving off the HCG hormone to get a positive which means you are defo preggers.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

congrats

PeachyCosmicExplosion · 03/11/2007 18:47

Congratulations! Unless you are taking a very few hormonal preps (all of which are listed in the test pack if they affect it) a false BFP is extremely rare.

Im so glad that Ive seen this post.

I was told by the doctor in a&e when I was mcing that you can get false positives and that it is just my period and that I was never pg in the first place.

When I questioned him about this saying that I had done 3 cbd tests - all with bfp he still stuck to his guns that you can get false positives.

I explained that I knew my own body - and that i knew by the hour when to expect af and that I have never in my life been over a week late he reluctantly gave me a blood test which showed that I was mcing.

But because of what he said Im still reluctant to believe pg tests. This thread has made me feel so much better.

Just a point to add

From reading many of the threads I think it is so sad to read all the horror stories of what people have experienced from visiting hospitals and doctors. I know they have a difficult job but these events occur one too many times. I was put in a waiting room with a 15 year old girl having an abortion when I was mcing. I mean - for goodness sake. Does anyone agree with me hear?

looneytune · 04/11/2007 08:20

Cheekster - totally agree with you!! My situation wasn't as bad as that but when I had ERPC after MCing, I was put on a ward to wait for hours, one other person was clearly having the same as me and crying like I was, other was an old dear who probably didn't mean it but really upset us by saying things like 'god, what's she crying about' and lots of LOUD nattering to her friend then when my dh left for a bit, I had to pretend I was asleep as this old dear was poking me and trying to talk to me - I just wanted the curtains drawn and to be left alone!!!

As for being told that about false positives and not being pregnant, did you complain?? I can't believe that!!! I'm RH negative blood group and it's vital that after I have a baby or MC, I MUST have an anti D injection otherwise future pregnancy would be attacked by my own blood! If they'd have said that to me and I didn't push....!!!! I can't believe you go such a crap Dr!!!

violeteyes - great news, congratulations!!

Cheekster - when I mced, the dr at our surgery gave me an internal and said he couldn't feel anything and I should ust wait and see. Infact, his exact words were 'If you are mcing you can't do anything about it so there is no point worrying' - in a 'god you women are so dramatic' tone of voice.

Nice.

I know its nowhere near the same as losing a baby and feeling like you're being voerheard etc, but when I was about 20 I ahd a car crash and internal bleeding, 3 years after my best mate died from same. The bleeding was from the kidneys so I ahd to have all urine tested for rpesence of blood as they hoped it would stop naturally (it did after 2 days). there was a sign next to my bed saying 'test all urine'. the girl in the bed and her family took the piss out of me for my entire stay- she was in with something 'elegant' I think, not sure what. Well they didnt ahve the grace to take the piss out of me- more loudly about me. 14 years later it still annoys me (at that age I ahd eating disorders and was exceptionally funnt about body related things- it took me 2 days just to see A&E over the bleeding).

PeachyCosmicExplosion · 04/11/2007 12:07

(That was to cheekster btw)

Violeteyes- how are you? getting used to the idea?
