Hi everyone,
I came off the pill 9 months ago and struggled to get a luteal phase of more than 10 days, sometimes it dipped to 8 - so I went to my doctor. They discovered I had a 4.3 TSH level (thyroid indicator) and while that is considered borderline normal, it's supposed to be under 2 for conception. Thyroid issues can create a luteal phase defect and my doctor says the medication should lengthen it.
So I've been on levothyroxine 50mg (thyroid medication) for 8 weeks now. My TSH is now down to 1.64 as of last week which is good.
But during that time, my luteal phase dipped to 8 in the first cycle (with spotting from 5DPO which was a day earlier than I'd had before) and this last cycle I got spotting on 6DPO and AF has arrived on 7DPO - making my luteal phase now 6!
I feel really gutted as the medication seems to have done the opposite and given me the shortest luteal phase I've had since I started tracking in August. I think my luteal phase might be related to something else - I've also had hormonal acne since coming off the pill so I think it's more than my thyroid out of wack, but my GP says there's nothing they can do.s
Has anyone experienced this? Or had a positive experience on levothyroxine - perhaps I just need to be patience and it needed to get worse before it gets better?!
