Hello Everyone,
My first message on Mumsnet.

My situation: Two months since I stopped Cerelle and no period. Very tired, bad abdominal pains, pregnancy test negative. Very confused and worried. Doctor no help.

Back story: While I was on Cerelle I would bleed for three weeks at a time, which is why I stopped it. My partner and I are now not using contraception, so pregnancy a regular possibility.

Thank you in advance for any assistance or advice.

Afterthought: I'm finding that on Mumsnet, one person broaches a subject, lots of people respond with their experiences, but the person who asks the question never comes back to the thread to explain what their result was. Is their any way of asking Mumsnet to request we do that? I think it would be very beneficial to whoever happens upon the thread in future looking for help.

Thank you in advance.

I came off Cerazette (which I think is the same just different branding) on 4th Jan after years of hormonal imbalance, acne and horrible anxiety. I had a withdrawal bleed almost immediately which lasted about 4 days. No period yet. Like you I've had abdo cramps and felt extremely tired. I did a test just in case but knew I wasn't pregnant, I'm not aiming to get pregnant so we're using condoms. Just hated the effects the pill had on my hormones!

It's only been a few weeks for me, so I don't know when my period will return. One of my friends came off her pill and didn't have a period for almost a year, bar the odd bit of spotting. Another friend came off and had a period within 2 weeks. Everyone is different, I wouldn't panic at this point OP. Sorry for all the rubbish side effects you're having though Flowers hope you get your period, or pregnancy if that's what you want, soon!

Hello!

Thank you so much for the message. You've instantly made me feel a bit better and less alone.

Most responses to this question state a withdrawal bleed happens quickly, followed by a draught, but I didn't get the withdrawal bleed. That is worrying. Everything else that is going on seems to be expected.

But this does not feel good, normal, healthy or natural, and little advice, knowledge, or guidance from the producers of the pill or doctors.

Hmm, strange you didn't get a withdrawal bleed! Are you sure you're definitely not pregnant? Have you tested more than once?!

Hello!

I have taken two pregnancy tests in the last week. I have all the symptoms: Big boobs, sickness, tiredness, pain. Strange pains last week that I've never had before that I thought could've been implantation pains. Strangely though, the swollen boobs have come and gone three times, and I have had normal period pains.

Have you heard of women not having withdrawal bleeds?

Hi RedPanda,

Thank you for your advice. I just came on this morning. It seems my body has been trying to force through a period over the last few weeks (hence the pain) and it's finally happened. I was also very tearful this weekend which was a good indicator.

Thanks.

@MinnieLynn how did you get on?!

I came off cerelle 2 weeks ago and no bleed yet, BUT when I stopped I had literally just finished 2 weeks of bleeding so assuming that may have something to do with it?

I am a bit confused as I'm sure each time I missed one by accident I ended up bleeding a couple of days later but I guess that must have been caused by the fluctuation in hormones from taking, missing then taking again.

No idea what to expect tbh.

@Bibidy ,

Hey, I came on on January 25th, the day after I posted here. It was a really worrying few months and painful. I wouldn't wish that contraceptive pill on anyone. I bleed for weeks at a time while on it. I'm now regular and all is well.

I recall of other posts on here most people were coming on shortly after, but I took two months. I also had the same experience as you and would come on if I missed a pill.

I think you're OK and just need some time to recover from it. x

Ah thanks for coming back so quick :) Glad it's sorted for you.

I am not too worried currently, just surprised as I had always come on quickly if I even missed one pill as we said, so was definitely expecting something more quickly.

I have also been having pretty regular monthly bleeds while on cerelle and am now at the dates I was bleeding last month, so sort of assumed that might happen...but it hasn't yet.

Just have to wait and see I guess. So funny how when you're not trying you panic every missed pill is going to result in pregnancy and when it actually comes to it it takes months to even get it out of your system Grin!

In case anyone finds this thread in the future and is looking for info like I was.....my period arrived today.

Last Cerelle taken on 17th May so this is about 2 and a half weeks later.

MissLB · 04/06/2021 10:34

Hi all

I came off Cerelle on 10th April and didn't bleed until 30th may (wedding day which was really handy Confused)
Period is still heavy now nearly a week later but may be just a build up from years of no bleeds... I never had bleeds when I was taking cerelle
did some ovulation tests during the 7 weeks since the pill and had two surges. One just after stopping and one 4 weeks later where you would expect which is good to know my body seems to be getting back to normal relatively quickly.

Bibidy · 04/06/2021 10:46

Congrats on your wedding MissLB! :)

Glad your period arrived too. I have been having regular bleeds even while on Cerelle the last few months so I guess I'm in line with that. Hopefully that means my cycle was just continuing even with the contraception but will have to wait and see I guess.

MissLB · 04/06/2021 11:04

@Bibidy
Fingers crossed everyone's cycles sort themselves quickly :)

Squishydoo · 09/06/2021 12:53

I've just come on this week after 5 weeks off the pill! I also had the horrible symptoms for weeks after I stopped too, felt soo yucky!

MinnieLynn · 14/06/2021 10:46

Hi @Bibidy and all,

Update:

I created this thread in January after stopping the pill and no period showing for months. My period came (as previously mentioned) at the end of January and I've just found out I'm pregnant. We are quite shocked. We only stopped using contraception because we assumed we wouldn't get pregnant or it would take ages if we did. I'm 39 and my mum went through the menopause when she was 40 so we thought the window was narrow. We had to live in different countries during February, March and April due to the pandemic and work commitments so it has happened very fast. It's all very surreal at the moment.

Hope everyone else's periods are coming and going as you hope they will.
