due to work TTC is going to be near impossible for a couple of months. Basically won't be having DTD in the weeks of my fertile window 😭🙈 so just wondering if I was to DTD this weekend but not entering my fertile window until Tuesday and then same again at the weekend after what's the chances? Its going to be like this for a few weeks any advice is it still possible?

I think so

Elouera · 22/01/2021 14:51

Sperm can survive up to 5 days inside, so yes, of course its possible.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 22/01/2021 14:53

If it wasn't possible then the rhythm method would be a very effective method of contraception.

Of course its possible.

Amz6219 · 22/01/2021 14:55

Possible but unlikely I think.. the sperm can live for 5 days during your fertile time because your cervical mucus is sperm friendly but prior to and after this it basically kills it off.

Sorry to sound so pessimistic! x

TTCPLEASE · 22/01/2021 14:59

@emmagrundyforpm haven't got a clue what you're on about rhythm method sorry.

@Amz6219 yeah its not that I'm ovulating on Tues just going into my "fertile window" according to apps I dont know. So you're probably right unlikely 🙈 the best days are when we're defo not going to do it. Oh well worth a shot anyway just for the sake of it 🤣🤣

Rhythm method is not having sex in your fertile window and reliably not getting pregnant

yawnsvillex · 22/01/2021 15:18

So as @EmmaGrundyForPM says .... it's not reliable so yes, it's possible.

WINKINGatyourage · 22/01/2021 15:19

Well, you’ve nothing to lose by trying have you?

AllTheCakes · 22/01/2021 15:23

Some women ovulate earlier and later than they expect. You could try OPKs to check exactly when you ovulate to help calculate.

TTCPLEASE · 22/01/2021 15:28

Thanks for the actual advice @AllTheCakes @amz6219

Apps are all very well and good but they are designed for the average. Sperm can last up to 5 days so if you can only have sex on the weekend, then go right ahead and get busy! It's also true that exactly when you ovulate within your cycle is not something that is 100% accurate via an app so you'd be crazy to base your sex life on that alone.

Incidentally, based on dates from the scan, the date that I got pregnant we absolutely know we did not have sex that day or the day before because we were helping a friend in a crisis. Neither DH nor I have any memory of when we had sex in the days prior (not helped by the fact that we didn't figure out I was pregnant until I was 8 weeks), but it 100% definitely was at least 2 days, but probably more, before.

TTCPLEASE · 22/01/2021 15:35

@triffid1 thank you, yeah I was thinking that about apps but also assumed that it was only your good ovulate days that worked not so far before but was hoping to hear a success story. Thank you for your advice x

I read an article about a study just a few weeks ago. Twenty five women agreed to be inseminated the day before they had a scheduled hysterectomy. The king and short of it was that upon studying the extracted uterus's sperm were seen to be active up to 9 days later. Women also have tiny chambers that store sperm and then it is released and wafted up towards the egg depending on your cycle. I'll see if I can find it, it was absolutely fascinating and the author was questioning why no more studies of this nature have been done.

Triffid1 · 22/01/2021 16:31

@FraggleShingleBellRock I had fertility treatment with DC1. And the thing my specialist said to me that I've never forgotten is that the single biggest reason couples don't conceive is not enough sex. She didn't specifically say that it was apps/ovulation kits etc that meant people they had to have sex on that day only, but she was very very firm with me and DH that when I was on Clomid, basically, once she saw that follicle forming we were to have as much sex as possible, at least once every 2 days for the next 10 days!! None of this 12 hour window of sex while the egg is receptive stuff!!

@FraggleShingleBellRock thank you an interesting read ive just had a quick glance xx
