8th day of flashing smilies!

At this point I'm thinking something if wrong. I came off the pill beginning of Nov, first cycle was 39 days, don't think I ovulated. Now on second cycle decided to try clear blue advances OPK's. Had my first smily last Friday, was so happy to see that, had sex Friday, Saturday and Sunday (DP works away during week). Now on day 8, I feel like flinging the thing out of the window. Im finding it really difficult with such long cycles and the fact I don't think I'm going to ovulate again and worrying there is something wrong. Can anybody help or advise? If there also any way at all to shorten my cycle? It would be so much easier if I had the standard 28-30 day cycle, the next cycle wouldn't feel so long away. Thanks

@rosierose10 have you done a pregnancy test?

rosierose10 · 15/01/2021 10:48

Not this month, as I'm only on cd26 and done lots of OPK's and haven't ovulated yet, last month cycle was 39 days.

I'd do one just to rule it out.

I can't advise about the opk's as I am fairly new to them myself but I have just tried soy isoflavones to shorten my cycle, it was 38 days and I was ovulating cd26. Already I am ovulatin cd18 so a huge improvement. You might want to look into them, loads of threads knocking about.

What day did you start testing and how. Often did you test once you got the smiley faces. Once you get flashing smilies. You're meant to test multiple times a day as peak is only about 12 hours long. You're also supposed to start testing on a certain day to get a baseline

Hi @rosierose10. I feel for you, the CB OPK's can become very frustrating! I have a shorter cycle than you (around 28/30 days), but I am now on day 9 of the flashing smiley, cycle day 20. I really do want to throw it out the window! We are now TTC cycle 7, but only for the last three months have I realised I don't ovulate in the "normal" window (CD14).

My friend actually told me she never got a static one month, and ended up getting a BFP that month. I think it is all to do with hormones and when they peak, which can sometimes be a very small window.

The thing that has helped me has been taking my temp (BBT) each morning when I wake up. Over a few months, you can see a pattern emerge and you can see when you actually ovulate which does sometimes conflict with the strips!

I have been recommended a few tools, one of them being ovusense which is quite pricey but apparently brilliant to track fertility.

Thank you for the replies (also sorry for all the typos, think I was still half sleep!) I started testing on cd19, couldn't really pin point a day to start using them as I had no idea if my cycle would be as long as last month and I had been using cheap OPK's before that so know I didn't ovulate. Haven't had any EWCM this month apart from possibly a tiny amount this morning but I can't be too sure that's what it definitely was. Tried temping, didn't work for me as the temps were so up and down and completely different every day despite following instructions. Will have a look into the soya isoflavones, I've never heard of them before. I had a look online previously to check if there was anything I could do to shorten cycles but couldn't seem to find and info.

@Toastedsesame do you mind me asking how you took them? Is it just once a day every day?

@rosierose10 No its a bit more complicated than that. Here is a good thread about them -

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/2206677-soy-isoflavones-yes-or-no

I took them cd2 til cd6 like this -
cd2 - 80mg
cd3 - 120mg
cd4 - 120mg
cd5 - 160mg
cd6 - 160mg

Its worth researching.

Thank you for letting me know about these and for linking the thread, just had a quick google and will look more in depth later, will definitely give them a go next month if this month is unsuccessful.

Update - got my static today. Came racing downstairs to show DP like it was some sort of trophy. Lucky he's home for the weekend 🤞
