how early to get mirena out?

Aiming to start TTC in November and thinking of getting my mirena out in August. How early would you / are you getting yours out? Is 3 months enough for my periods to stabilise? Obviously I know everyone is different but good to hear of others experiences of how long it took to stabilise / how long they're planning on having it out for prior to trying.

Hi got my coil out in September after having it in for about 2 years. Prior to that I had the mini pill, implant and depo over a period of 6 years and never had any AF during that time.
Since having mirena removed my cycles have been ranging from 22 to 29 days and I have been tracking with a clear blue ovulation monitor. AF lasts a maximum of 3 days whereas they used to last up to 7 so a lot lighter so I'm worried my lining isn't thick enough. The doctor who took it out said the main thing was to wait a few months for lining to build up.
This is our first month TTC and I'm currently in the TWW with no symptoms so I'm not hopeful this month!

Hi, I had mine out on 23rd Oct 2020, having had one for 13 years. I had a withdrawal bleed 2 days later, then my first proper period 28 days after. Hormones were all over the place before my first AF... My poor partner 😂

The Nov/Dec cycle I’m pretty sure I didn’t actually ovulate, hormones had settled down though.

Then Dec/Jan I had really strong ovulation pains on 1st Jan, DTD accordingly, then had mega symptoms from 6DPO - nausea, dizziness, headaches, bleeding gums, constipation, elevated HR. Got a strong positive yesterday at 10DPO 😃

I think it depends entirely on the individual though - I had really regular light periods all the way through having the mireana, and have had regular scans since I had one in, because I had such an awful time with AF when I was younger, and I have a family history of cervical and ovarian cancer.

@Maurice76 your experience gives me hope! I am currently 5DPO and disappointed that I don't have any symptoms!!

Mine took 6 months to stabilise it was a nightmare. But after that it was perfect and didn't have periods.

I had our removed after 2 years as it affected my mood

@Maurice76 congratulations! That's amazing news!

I didn't know about waiting a few months to allow lining to build up. I'm guessing 3 months should be okay then. I'll try and get it out early August rather than later on. I've barely had any periods at all (maybe 10 if that in the last 4 years) and before the coil my periods were a bit all over the place so no idea what they'll be like when I get it out.

@Nearlytherenext I'm guessing you're referring to your periods whilst you had it in? I meant how early to get it out prior to TTC and how long has it taken people's periods to stabilise once it's come out ready to start ttc.

@TTCnum1 hope you are able to get pregnant soon.

I had mine out in the August and fell pregnant maybe 6 weeks later? I didn’t wait!! I am pretty sure we did the same thing with DC2 9 years ago.

I didn’t know about waiting for things to stablise or settle down!

Good luck :)

Meant to say this was 2019, as my DD3 is now 7 months old.

Maurice76 · 12/01/2021 11:52

@TTCnum1 I have everything crossed for you that a little bean is implanting now then! 🤞🏻

@DunravenBadger Thank you 😃 I’d say 3 months is very sensible. I wasn’t expecting it to happen so quickly, but as I said, I had a pretty good idea of what my insides looked like before TTC! And my gynaecologist was very confident that I was in good shape to conceive. Best of luck to you! 🍀

Thanks @Maurice76
You say you had strong ovulation pains...I also had really bad pains this month! Like hot water bottle lying on the sofa level of pain for about 2 days. I never experienced this on the coil. Did you notice any difference?

Maurice76 · 12/01/2021 18:27

@TTCnum1
Mine were over on the right, and if I hadn’t had to work that day, I definitely would have been on the sofa with a hot water bottle! The worrier in me thought it might have been appendicitis 😂
