When is the first day of my cycle?

I realise this should be obvious... but I get very light bleeding that I would class as spotting for 1-2 days before my period properly starts. It's a tiny bit, not enough to need a cup/pad/tampon. I use the Flo app and document as spotting (under discharge) then day 1 is when my period starts 'properly' when I need a cup. Now I'm wondering if this is right or day 1 should be as soon as I see blood and I should log it as period day 1 with light flow?!

Hm doesn't sound as if your first couple of days are considered "light flow" if you don't need to use anything for it. I'd log it as spotting and then CD1 your first day of using a cup or whatever.

Yep, first day is counted as ‘proper’ bleeding, not minor spotting.
