Still breastfeeding, irregular periods...how to conceive?!

I have an app and was great conceiving Ds1 who is 16 months old. Now we want to try for number 2 but I've only had one period and now I'm about 36 days into my cycle with no sign of period coming. My son had reduced feeding because he'd been at nursery but then he hadn't been back since 7th Dec so he increased feeding again and I'm wondering if this has made my period not return. .I dont even know if I ovulated!

If you were breastfeeding when you conceived your second, how long did it take and how irregular were your periods?

Hi hun,
I can’t advise but I’m in the same boat. I’ve been weaning my 9month off and dropped pumping sessions from 6 to 3.

I have been getting periods and have been ovulating according to the clear blue strips but still no joy. We’ve been trying for 4 months xx

Oh I hope it happens for you soon. At least you know you have been ovulating!

It's tricky!

I'm still bf 17 month old. Had my first period in July then cycles ranged from 28-42 days (was 29 days pre pregnancy). Got a bfp in October but mc in November. My next af started bang on 4 weeks.
Currently only bf ds at night and all through the night just so I can get some sleep

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I didn’t get my period back, nor ovulate as far as I could tell (usually get pretty good going ovulation pains) until after I’d dropped the very last feed! Was fully expecting them back after I’d night weaned and cut down but nope, had to stop completely. Conceived very quickly when we did try after that though, whereas took a good few months the first time.

Ok next question...how do I wean my boy?!
He is back to nursery today and so usually then feeds drop to:
Wake up feed
Get home feed
Before sleep feed
And then one or two in the night

He sits on me and bobs up and down and pulls my too and goes "eh, eh" wanting it. How can I say no?! He just cries!

It took me 3 months to conceive no.2 while breastfeeding no.1 who was about 18/20 months at the time. I’d had regular periods for about 10 months by that point though. One tip I’d heard was that you should eat more when trying to conceive while breastfeeding - in effect, you are trying to tell your body that your environment is resource rich enough to support two nurselings. It worked for me but obviously I’d also had regular periods for a while at that point.

LucyrGilbert · 11/01/2021 08:52

@Tropicalsquirrel I heard this too, any excuse to eat more 😂

I have tested today and it’s my peak day so fingers crossed I have egg white CM aswell.

@Horehound that’s so tough, I have no experience with it as yet but my boy is biting so much at the boob the last few days that I’ve switched to given him formula last night and just pumping three times daily. I’ll still give him what I pump but I’ve cut my pumping sessions down in time and frequency. I feel so guilty doing it but I also go back to work soon so he would need to be night weaned for then anyway xx

Fingers crossed for you @LucyrGilbert!
It is tough and also my boy alhas always refused a bottle so it's me or nada.
The other thing is because he is at nursery he keeps getting colds and so feeding from me in the night helps to clear his nose and let's him breathe a bit better. Then there's the teething. So really there's never a good time to stop 🤦 I don't want to deal with the upset!

@Horehound aww it’s so hard isn’t it! I’m not ready give up but it is what it is I guess, so lovely to have others on a similar or journey xx
