Looking for some help and advice. I’m just off the mini pill cerazette to be exact I stopped taking it in October and bled 25th for 4/5 days, my periods are usually regular always within 28-32 days but I’ve been experiencing mild cramp in my lower stomach and back ever since last week (the time I was due) which made me think my period was coming but I’m now 4 days late as my period tracker app has told me, I’ve taken 4 tests now and all BFN so not too sure what is going on? Anyone able to help?

The bleed straight after coming off the pill isn't actually a period. It has a special name but I can't remember what. Then it can take up to 6 months for periods to settle down into a routine after coming off.

wrensandrobins · 01/12/2020 12:04

After coming off the mini pill it took me 5 and a bit weeks to get a proper period. It can take months though

The bleed @edin16 is referring to is a breakthrough bleed.

Dogloverxo · 01/12/2020 12:07

Yeah I thought it was withdrawal bleeding just I’ve heard stories of people getting pregnant straight after coming off the pill so wasn’t sure if it had happened to me as well as I’ve been TTC @edin16 Did you experience any cramps when your period was coming? @wrensandrobins

Yes my cramps were worse off the pill, but everything else got better!

Have you stated taking folic acid? I think they like you to wait for your period before TTC as it makes it easier to date the pregnancy

Skyla01 · 01/12/2020 12:14

@Dogloverxo after coming off the mini pill it took 8 weeks for me to have a bleed of any sort. During that time I had lots of cramps etc. 6 months to get a regular cycle. 13 months until bfp...!

Really hope your body gets back to normal quickly. Many (lucky) people do get pregnant straight away. But I also wouldn't drive yourself mad if things take a while to settle down either.

Dogloverxo · 01/12/2020 12:19

Just finding it so hard not to think about it if you get me feel like that’s always on my mind and think I got my hopes up quite a bit, thank you I hope so too as I really want a child! @Skyla01

@Dogloverxo definitely remember that feeling! For first 6months ttc I was obsessed but after a while with no luck I realised I really needed to chill out and step back a bit. But odds are in your favour you'll conceive within 3 or 6 months so a bit of short-term craziness is manageable!

Dogloverxo · 01/12/2020 16:08

I’ve not been taking any folic acid, still getting a bit cramp so I’m assuming my period will probably come eventually @Skyla01

Try and not put too much pressure on yourself for the first few months while your hormones settle back down. I came off the pill in the April, conceived in the august and found out at the end of October. It took so long for me to find out because my periods had been all over the place. And I was really surprised it only too 4 months to be honest.

wrensandrobins · 01/12/2020 16:26

@Dogloverxo my gp told me to start taking it before I got pregnant, as it can take time to build up in the system, it might be worth getting some now, they need to be 400mg I think to be the right level :)

Dogloverxo · 01/12/2020 16:34

Yeah I’m going to just try take my mind off of it and think when it happens it happens! Congratulations to you! @edin16

I might start taking them but not too sure as it might put me in the mind set I was in last year after my MC of trying so hard to fall again. Does it help with falling? @wrensandrobins

Much the same as you I'm not long off Cerazette. I stopped in September and my period was about a week late, had awful cramp and my boobs were heavy, veiny and very painful. Also had nauseous, ache, sore heads and a metallic taste in my mouth so I thought I was in for a bfp lol. I then bled for 16 days from the 12th-28th October (withdrawal bleed) then 17 days later on the 15th Nov I bled for 5 days so assuming that was my first proper period, all of my symtoms vanished and now Flo says I've just ovulated the other day there so think that's me settling down. Everyone's different though but they do say to wait for some regularity. Hopefully you won't be waiting too long 😊

wrensandrobins · 01/12/2020 17:19

@Dogloverxo maybe just take a ladies multivitamin that has folic acid in? That way you aren't putting the pressure on, just looking after yourself.

I have no idea, but the nhs has loads of advice on it www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/vitamins-minerals-supplements-pregnant/?tabname=getting-pregnant

Dogloverxo · 01/12/2020 17:29

Good that we can relate then haha! Makes me feel a lot better because was worried and was also getting my hopes up a lot! Hoping my period comes soon thank you so much! @Dreamer30

I didn’t think of that thank you! Where would you suggest buying some as I don’t want to spend a fortune if you get me haha @wrensandrobins

@Dogloverxo I just get morrisons own brand, I think all the major supermarkets do a basic one, the ladies specific ones usually have the right amount of folic acid 400g, if you get pregnant you will need to swap to pregnancy ones as multivitamins contain vitamin A which you can't have if you are pregnant.

Dreamer30 · 01/12/2020 18:13

Sorry that should have said nausea and acne lol daft phone. You're welcome lovely

Dogloverxo · 01/12/2020 21:54

Okay dokey I’ll have a look at them! Thank you so much again! :) x @wrensandrobins
