Help! Faint Positive or Evaporation Line - Just started IVF

Hi,

I have just started long protocol IVF (on day 6 of down regulation drugs) and i thought i would take a pregnancy test just to check we hadn't caught when i last ovulated - i think i ovulated around 13 days ago. I took a first response early detection test this morning, i looked at it 3 mins later - negative, i think i looked it around 10/15 mins after that and still didn't notice anything and didn't look again after that. Then maybe 50 mins after i'd first done the test i was tidying up and picked up the test to throw away and i noticed a faint pink line. I looked online and read about the evaporation lines, it they said that are normally grey in colour.

I phoned the IVF clinic and she said there is not much they can do other than try another test tomorrow morning, but now i don't know whether i should take the down regulation drug this evening (i am taking the nasal spray you take in the morning and the evening).

I'm so confused, has anyone else had a faint pink (or coloured line) on a test that turned out to be negative? I did do a regular (pregnant/not pregnant) test just now that i had lying around at home which said 'not pregnant' altho that one was a standard test you take when you are late and doesn't have as high a degree of sensitivity as the early detection ones.

Thanks

This is a strong positive!

kirinm · 18/11/2020 10:15

That isn't a faint line. I'd imagine with a move that dark, you'd probably get a positive without FMU. Could you take another today?

I would be very surprised if it's an evap!

Respectabitch · 18/11/2020 10:18

That is a clear positive. You are pregnant. The neg will have been because that test requires a higher HCG level to come back pos.

I can't answer the question about your meds but fingers crossed for you.

Hi,

I did just take a standard digital test (you take from first day period is due) and it said not pregnant. I am currently on day 26 of my cycle and my cycles vary from 22 - 26 days so i am not technically late and i have been taking the IVF drugs for the last 6 days.

Maybe i should buy another early detection test.

That’s a positive all day long, congrats!!!

Allwhiteeverythin · 18/11/2020 10:22

Those digital ones are rubbish, I’ve had them say not pregnant when I’m days past due date and had loads of other positive tests, they’re an expensive con.

raspberryjamlove · 18/11/2020 10:47

Defo get another frer test, digital won't show up for a few days, good luck x

winnie3838 · 18/11/2020 10:48

Thank you so much for your replies.

I am trying to not get my hopes up - but i can't believe it! We are doing IVF because i have a low amh due to endometriosis and have recently turned 38 too - it felt like everything was against me. Was not expecting this!

Same happened to me, found out I was pregnant in the ivf clinic for the first down reg scan, the nurses said it was common.
I agree digital are rubbish, take another frer they are the best imo

Congrats

winnie3838 · 18/11/2020 11:38

Thank you @astella22
Were they at all worried about the effects of the down regulation drugs on the pregnancy?

You need to read a test in the indicated time, if I've read correctly that came up li that after almost an hour.

I'd retest using first morning wee tomorrow

winnie3838 · 18/11/2020 11:43

Thanks @TheLovleyChebbyMcGee yes i am going to do another one this afternoon and then tomorrow morning.

Not sure when exactly the line on the one this morning appeared, i had checked it around 10/15mins after and nothing but didn't look again until nearly an hour later - so it maybe have begun to appear after the time i looked at it after 15mins if that makes sense.

Will do another tho.

I would say that you should read the test within allocated time although it does look quite strong for an evap line. I would go out and buy a few more tests and do one ASAP and then again in the morning. Pink dye tests are better IMO.

Similar thing happened to us. We had been added to IVF list and conceived 2 weeks later 😁

I truly hope it is your bfp!!

They didn’t seam to be no. However at that stage I had already taken them, had what I thought was a period and then went for the first scan, was 5 weeks gone.

@Astella22 thank you :)

That’s very strong if it’s an evap!

However you said it didn’t appear within the timeframe? You need to test again.

Good luck Flowers

susandelgado · 18/11/2020 12:07

Mine was like that many years ago. I was indeed pregnant and now have a 30 year old dd. I wish you all the best op!

winnie3838 · 18/11/2020 12:51

Well i just did another early detection one and saw this result after 3mins - so it looks like it could be true! Have an app at the IVF clinic tomo morning first thing to discuss next steps. Thanks everyone.

Neither of those positives are faint! Congratulations 🎉

Janefx40 · 18/11/2020 12:54

Congrats @winnie3838 - I've done 2 rounds of IVF and an FET (and now have a daughter). This is the dream come true so I have everything crossed for you!

I don't know about down reg drugs as always did short protocol but they generally say that drinking etc doesn't harm the baby until about 4 weeks because they aren't taking from your blood stream before that so I think the baby should be ok

🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
