If I’m having symptoms would a test show positive?

I think I am 11dpo possibly 9-10dpo but definitely not less. For the last 2 days I’ve been having waves of nausea and feeling very gassy with heart burn. Boobs are sore too! This would be my third pregnancy so I feel like I know my body quite well but my dh thinks it’s too soon to test. My argument is that I’m having symptoms a test will show an accurate result one way or another?

What’s the general consensus?

It very much depends on your hcg levels and the test you use, but a FRER should definitely confirm pregnancy if you’re 10-11 dpo and already have symptoms. People get a bfp at 8 dpo so a sensitive enough test will give you an answer I think x

Thanks for the reply.
Can I text tonight if I do maybe a 3 hour hold? I would really just like to know one way or another now. I suppose it’s only a few days till AF is due but I would really really love this baby BlushSad

In theory if the symptoms you’ve had are from pregnancy then it would be because of the hcg so yes a test would show as you wouldn’t get actual pregnancy symptoms until your body was producing hcg.

BUT obviously a lot of pregnancy symptoms mirror those pre af symptoms so it’s difficult sometimes to tell them apart.

At 11dpo you may well get a positive on a more sensitive test like a frer. I got mine at 10dpo. X

A 3-4 hour hold would be ok as long as you’ve not drank lots. The only reason they say to use fmu is because generally it’s the longest period of time most people go without having a drink.

I always had better positive tests after work (as I was rubbish in work and never drank anything).

Thanks! Yes my pre AF symptoms are always very similar to pregnancy symptoms but I always get a bubbly tummy feeling when I’m pregnant so I’m really hoping it’s something! I haven’t had a drink since about 6pm so I suppose I could test at 9ish. I am up most of the night with my youngest so probably not the best idea to test in the morning as I’ve usually visited the toilet at least 3-4 times overnight Grin

We aren’t actually trying either - both times I really had to WORK to get pregnant lol. It took me almost 12 months and 8 months. This will honestly be a miracle if it’s positive as I have high FSH and dh had some problems with quality too. 🤞

I was 7 weeks pregnant and showing symptoms for weeks including missed AF, but still getting negative tests. So no, I don't think symptoms have anything to do with accuracy of testing. If you test now and get a negative, even with symptoms, you could still be pregnant. I hope you get the result you're hoping for! :) keep us updated.

@Cinderellashoes, sorry to hear it’s bfn for you-still some time left though before af arrives so you’re not out until the witch arrives! 🤞🤞

I've been pregnant 7 times (not all worked out) so I have a good idea of how my body feels at the early stages. Even still I've been wrong about symptoms and had many months of disappointment! Symptoms are just so similar to other everyday symptoms too. In fact this pregnancy I was sure we were out that month so wasn't even thinking of testing, no symptoms at all that I noticed, except the day before my period was due I felt so nauseated all day -I remember thinking that it was wishful thinking because it felt so similar to morning sickness. Whereas other months I'd had a list of symptoms and been shocked to be wrong.
