Hi

I have a DD born 2016 so isnt my first rodeo, however something strange is happening!

I track my cycles and know when I ovulated and dead on when period should be and I've taken the test today and says 2-3 weeks already!

My fella is a twin so I'm wondering if it's twins! Does anyone have any experience of this ?

Have scan booked for 4/12 as unfortunately we've had two mc this year

Tia xx

Twins only ever go down the maternal line and only non identical (it’s the ovary releasing more than one egg). So your partner being a twin won’t have any bearing on things.

Do you have a 14 day LP phase? If so, you’d expect to see 2-3 weeks on the test as you’d be on day 29 (15 days post ovulation) so it sounds like your test is right for one baby and hopefully all will go well with this pregnancy.

Partners twin also had twins boys so that's not true

It is the womans body that decides if you have twins, either by releasing 2 eggs (non identical twins) or a fertilised egg splits into two (identical twins). If you are pregnant with twins it will be a coincidence, not due to your partner. If you go for a private scan, you can probably find out at about 7 or 8 weeks.

AMS19 · 13/11/2020 06:36

@mummatoone16 I have this too on day of missed period but made sense as I had ovulated 15 day earlier. Do you know when you ovulated? If not, I would say it doesn't necessarily mean twins, most ladies im talking to on here got the same and we can't all be having twins! Best of luck either way xx

Wishing56 · 13/11/2020 07:35

@sparklyowl is correct. Non identical twins follow the maternal line as its about whether the woman releasing two eggs or not. If someone has identical twins its just an absolute fluke and does not run in families at all. Unless your partners twin is a girl then its total coincidence they had twins.

As others have said its not abnormal to get 2-3weeks on day of missed period.

I got 2-3weeks at 13dpo & 3+ at 17dpo and it was twins.

EarringsandLipstick · 13/11/2020 07:55

Partners twin also had twins boys so that's not true

😂 of course it is!

Partner's twin had twins based on the woman's body. Not him!

Twins can be a random occurrence, as well as having a hereditary link i.e. identical twins or releasing an egg from each ovary on that's particular cycle.

Best of luck with your pregnancy 💐

ivfbeenbusy · 13/11/2020 07:56

I'm having twins and got 2-3 on clearblue 2 days before period due.
So honestly it could go either way but the threshold for 2-3 is a hcg level of 153 which is entirely normal at 14DPO for one baby

Thank you! Kinda hoping it is twins and then DH is having the snip haha. I managed to get a positive test on first response at 8dpo! Which I thought was impossible! I know when I ovulated because I've had the bloods done for recurrent miscarriages etc. Reallt hoping it's a sticky bean and if there's two at least there double the chance of at least one making it x

If your dates are right and there is only one, do mention to your midwife that you think you might have had higher levels of hcg this early on and have the combined test.

MrsEG · 13/11/2020 22:26

I have twins and had very strong positives so could be! As others have said though, your partner being a twin will have nothing to do with it if so. Only non-identical twins can be hereditary (identical twins happen by chance) and they run on the maternal side only (it’s the ability to release two eggs at once). My twins are non-ID and were a massive shock, as there are none on my maternal line!

Best of luck with the pregnancy.

Thespottytortoise · 13/11/2020 22:32

I got a v v strong positive in the day my period was due and a 3+ the following day (not with fmu either). I get ovulation pain so know when I ovulate, but it was one baby. They did our me forward a week though, so I conceived before I ovulate, so I must have had an early silent ovulstion.

2020wish · 14/11/2020 09:12

I got a strong positive at 7dpo . I knew exactly when I ovulated Via BBT, Ewcm and opks. I then got 2-3 weeks before my period was late and 3+ before I was 5 weeks. Only one healthy baby boy and I’m 20 weeks now. Congrats x

What's the combined test please ? Is it for checking something is wrong ? X

Thank you ladies for all the info! I will update in 2 weeks time when I find out for sure!

So I know the science behind twins but it still baffles me because DH side goes

Granddad was a twin and then had twins boy/girl

That boy is my DH dad and he had twins as well!

My DH and his twin are not identical but they look it ! Bizarre and he had twin boys.

So I do wonder if maybe the research should be extended as that's 3 males who all seem to be carrying the twin genetics. No twins on the females side as far as
They know. Just seems bit too common to brushed off x

MrsEG · 14/11/2020 15:04

@mummatoone16 Definitely still chance - a father / male cannot influence genetics to release two ovum. I have twins and I had many a fascinating conversation with my consultant about it! As my DH had twins on his side, but absolutely none on my maternal line. In fact they even thought it was triplets at first (7 week scan) - thankfully for my bank balance it was just the two!!!
Sounds like your DH family has had some wonderful luck! Twins are fabulous :)
All the very best with the pregnancy x

ZigZaggyZoo · 14/11/2020 15:10

I had storing positives when pregnant with twins. Much stronger than single DC and further along on the digital test than single DC at the same point in pregnancy.
Either way, congratulations & good luck!

SinkGirl · 14/11/2020 15:17

Dizygotic twins occur when a woman releases two eggs so it’s not possible for your partner’s genetics to impact this.

DCDA twins can be identical (25% of the time if same sex), and often older twins are identical but don’t know it, because there were two placentas and back then it was assumed this meant they were fraternal but that’s not always the case. I met someone recently who found out they were an identical twin at 45.

Wishing56 · 14/11/2020 17:21

@sinkgirl thats crazy isnt it. My twins are identical but i think they look totally different and question if they are identical but i had 16 scans throughout pregnancy and they all said shared placenta so sure they were right 😂

CandleWick4 · 14/11/2020 17:25

I got a pregnant 2-3 weeks day after my period was due and it was just the one. Sounds like you want twins though - good luck hope you get the result you want and keep us posted Flowers

Mine are dizygotic but we were really unsure - DT2 had IUGR and complex medical issues, plus was on a medication which causes excessive hair growth from a couple of weeks old so they looked very different at first glance but so similar as they got older. But their geneticist tested them (they both have disabilities) and they are definitely not identical. Other people really struggle to tell them apart which I find crazy because they look so different to me.
