Can Vit C lengthen luteal phase?

Since coming off the pill (currently on cycle 4) my cycles have been 26 days with ovulation on CD18 or later. So obviously my luteal phase is way too short. I've read Vitamin C can increase progesterone so I've starting taking some high strength supplements. Has anyone else had experience with this and managed to lengthen their luteal phase naturally?

Hello!

Not a full success story yet but I started on vitamin C for my past cycle as have a short luteal phase of 8-9 days. It has been short since coming off the implant. I did get pregnant the cycle before last after 6 cycles of trying but had a chemical/ early miscarriage not sure which- I was 5w2d. Not sure if it was a coincidence or the vit C which helped. Still on it and coming into fertile week for trying again so hoping it will work and give any fertilised egg a chance to stick this month!

Good luck!

@ButterscotchBabe I have this problem too 😔 I came off the pill in April and my last LP was 8/9 days. It's scary isn't it, as I can't really work out if it's my body still adjusting from the pill, or if this is just me 🤷🏻‍♀️ I also ovulate really late too. I'm CD30 and due to ovulate today after a positive OPK the last two days. I'm taking 1000mg of vitamin c a day, as well as a b vitamin complex and Angus castus to try and lengthen my LP. I only started all of this mid last cycle (apart from vitamin c, which I added half way through this cycle) so am praying it helps. What strength vitamin c are you taking? X

Thanks both for your repsonse, it's reassuring to know I'm not the only one but sorry you're experiencing it too! It's frustrating as everywhere says the pill doesn't affect your fertility, which it may not in the long term but certainly does in the short term. I would have come off earlier if I'd known there might be issues!

@Bertyb7 sorry you had a chemical / early miscarriage, hopefully it can offer you some reassurance that you are able to get pregnant. Fingers crossed the vitamin C will help this time. I've gone from hoping for a BFP each month to just hoping my luteal phase lengthens! When are you expecting to ovulate? I'm on CD16, so expecting ovulation any day now.

@MintGreenLife oh no that sucks that it's still short after that long, everywhere tells you max 6 months to return to normal! Oh wow ovulation on CD30 is late and I was complainly about ovulation on CD18 😂. I'm currently on CD16 so awaiting ovulation any day now, I was really hoping it would be earlier this month. I'm taking 1000mg Vit C with Zinc (I only had an immune pack at home, not purposely taking the zinc). I've read that 500mg is all you need, so unsure whether to buy a different strength when next shopping. I also take folic acid and Vit D. Have you spoken to your GP about this yet?

I think vitamin b complex has some evidence behind it as well?

MintGreenLife · 12/11/2020 09:57

@ButterscotchBabe well this is my 6th cycle, so maybe my LP will start to improve from here, or at least I hope it will! Ha yep, my latest ovulation so far off the pill was CD40 and earliest CD25, it's a long long wait, and now at this point we have been TTC almost 8 months but with only a few shots at it because my cycles are so long. When I first came off the pill my LP was 4 days! So it's getting better, I just hope it carries on.

I'm taking 1000mg daily too, and I also take zinc but a separate supplement. My vitamin c tablets are 500mg so I'm wondering if I should cut down to just one a day for my LP as should ovulate today.

I have, I went for bloods a couple of months ago, everything came back 'normal' but when I looked at the realists myself there was a note under the TSH result (thyroid) which said 'if this patient is pregnant or is planning pregnancy please refer to...' and a link to the endocrinology website. My TSH is 3.5, whereas it should be under 2.5 to conceive. As the GP said it was normal, I haven't braved going back about it yet, but am waiting to do a private blood test to see what the outcome is and then will go from there x

ButterscotchBabe · 12/11/2020 19:14

@vinoelle yes I think so, I've also seen on here lots of ladies saying multivitamins messed with their cycles, so I'm trying not to take too many different vitamins. If the vit c doesn't work i'll try the vit b!

@MintGreenLife thats good you've seen improvement with the luteal phase, at least its going in the right direction, albeit slowly 🙂. Vit C isn't stored by the body, you just wee out what you don't need, so I don't think it would cause a problem taking 1000mg but it may not be necessary. I don't think much research has been done around it, so difficult to know. If you don't get a BFP this month I would definitely go back to the GP and see what can be done to help your thyroid, there might be a simple fix.

I think I've got my peak on OPK today and got ewcm so really hoping ovulation will happen tomorrow. That will be CD17 which is a day earlier than last month, so hopefully means luteal phase will be longer! x

Soy isoflavones. There was a long thread on another baby site (maybe baby center) and those of us who tried it had about an 80% success rate within two cycles.

FES123 · 18/05/2021 21:12

Hi ladies - Wondering if anyone had any success with Vitamin C? I’m in the same boat and just started taking them today after a miscarriage in Dec left my cycles all over the place. Thank you x

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 18/05/2021 22:38

I started taking vitamin C (1000mg of liposomal C) and also soy isoflavones. Luteal phase went from around 9 days to 12 days for the last two cycles.

ButterscotchBabe · 19/05/2021 05:39

@FES123 unfortunately it didn't help me so I stopped taking it, still TTC ☹️

@ButterscotchBabe sorry I didn’t clock this was an older thread. Me also, still ttc ☹️

bertieb7 · 19/05/2021 08:35

I commented on this thread in November and I am still TTC too 👋 it's so hard isn't it? Really didn't expect it to take this long!

Have you managed to fix your luteal phases? I'm seeing a private fertility doc for mine now so they have been 14 days the last few months.

FES123 · 19/05/2021 11:46

Thanks all for taking the time to reply... I was hoping it would be a magic wand to fix everything but as ever, it’s not that easy is it! Sorry to hear that you are still TTC. Sending lots of luck your way and hoping 2021 has some magic up it’s sleeve for us all x ps. I will still try with the vitamins just in case!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 19/05/2021 16:09

@bertieb7 what did the private dr give you to make them 14 days? Soy isoflavones got mine to 12 days, which I think is okay, but I'd be interested to see if theres something I could do to make it longer

bertieb7 · 19/05/2021 16:38

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I am now on an ovitrelle injection to trigger ovulation which means it can be pinpointed and happens when my follicle is exactly the right size (I get a monthly tracking ultrasound) and progesterone pessaries 2 days after injection.
I was relieved to find a consultant who actually diagnosed a short luteal phase as heard that some were very sceptical that it is a problem.

GrumpyHoonMain · 19/05/2021 16:39

Vitamin b7 can.
Excitablemuch · 19/05/2021 18:25

I took vit b6 and it lengthened my phase by 2 days first month and the next I fell pregnant. Before my LP was 9/10 days. I also ate lots of spinach and greens - and took cq10 for egg quality :)
