BBT chart and OPK don't add up?!

Ladies,

I've posted a bit recently with regard to doctors appointments and blood tests etc.
I'm so confused and just feeling so defated this month.

I've started to use the Clear Blue Advanced OPK this cycle and thought it would really help pinpoint when I ovulate.
I got a low reading on CD8. Then 2 days of high reading then my peak on CD11.
The next day i had a temp increase which I assumed was ovulation and would fit completely with my OPK result.
I couldnt test again for 48 hours as per the Clear Blue instructions.
The day after my peak my temperature dropped.
It had also stayed low. And by low, I mean lower than it ever is on any of the other months I've tested.
Being totally confused I tested again when i could use the Clear Blue test and just got a blank circle to indicate not fertile.
I did this for 2 days just to confirm.

I dont understand whats happening?
Did I not ovulate? Did my body try to ovulate but couldnt? Would I ovulate again?

Im awaiting a docrors referral for tests anyway but just wondered if those with alot more experience than me could give any advice.

Thanks everyone 😊

Are you taking your temp at the same time everyday? You have quite a few triangles. It might make things a little less clear if you don't try to do it at the same time everyday.
I'd say you haven't ovulated yet but to keep DTD as this doesn't mean you won't at all! Sometimes temps work their way down before ovulation so fingers crossed. I'd recommend logging your CM too as that's helpful of using FF. Don't give up!!

Thanks for your reply @MrsKin90.
I am a shift worker so the time I take my temp varies but generally not by much. Especially not for the last week or so. Maybe 30min difference occasionally.
I have been tracking my CM and all other parameters on Fertility Friend (managed to cut the rest of the chart off when i uploaded it).
I've had EWCM since my peak on CD12. But its kinda dried up now (apologies, TMI).
Should I keep using OPK's or just leave it be for the month do you think?
The Clear Blue ones are expensive but ive never had a peak on the cheap ones.

I would say that based on the chart you haven’t ovulated yet-maybe your body geared up for ovulation but was unsuccessful, which is what happened to me this month and instead on cd17 my ovulation happened on cd24.
I think that in such cases you can keep dtd every other day and continue to take you bbt until af arrives/ovulation is confirmed? The sticks are so pricey that I personally wouldn’t test with them anymore this month and will rely on bbt and any other late ovulation signs. It’s not unusual to have anovulatory cycle either so don’t worry about it too much. xx

MrsKin90 · 11/11/2020 18:53

Unless you can only DTD at certain times (rather than every other day) I'd second the advice to not take them for the rest of the cycle but my advice is biased because I only rely on BBT anyway 😊
I think you're too early in your cycle to write this off as anovulatory. I can see by your chart you do have longer than average cycles, suggesting you usually ovulate around CD20?

Juno231 · 11/11/2020 19:23

I agree with previous posters that if you normally have 30+ day cycles then this is too soon to write off the cycle. It sounds like your body tried to ovulate but failed, but it can do that several times in a cycle before succeeding, so do plod along with the BBT. Only do OPKs if you can be bothered, but do DTD regularly if you're gonna skip them!

Thank you everyone, I really appreciate your input and advice.

Each month my cycle length will vary between 28 and 35 days. Some months my BBT will vary so much Fertility Friend cannot pinpoint when I ovulate.
I dont really get ovulation symptoms either which is frustrating.
For interest sake i did one last OPK tonight with urine held for more than 4 hours (busy shift at work!). It was another static smiley. Yesterday there was just a blank circle.

I'm not going to use any more OPK's this month. Its the first time I've used the Clear Blue ones and I feel more confused than ever!
I've been referred for a day 21 progesterone blood test and a pelvic scan which I hope will help to work out if there is anything wrong. I've been off contraception coming up for 3 years and nothing so far.
I think I will just stick to doing my BBT going forward! Its easier to manage 😂

Thank you to everyone though, all feedback and advice is welcome.
TTC can be a lonely old journey sometimes.

@Flutterby8 Just a heads up that day 21 tests assume you ovulate on CD14. If you end up with a 35 day cycle this time then doing the test on Day 21 will tell you you haven't ovulated, as it'll be too early to tell or even before ovulation has occurred.

I had my day 21 test on CD26 for example :)

Flutterby8 · 11/11/2020 20:22

Thank you @Juno231 for this information.
I told my doctor that my cycles weren't always 28 days long and she didnt seem to care. I even questioned having a day 21test and the accuracy if this cycle is 35 days. She said it didn't matter 🤷‍♀️
To be honest, I did feel quite fobbed off by the doctor. She just seemed a bit dismissive until i said I'd been off contraception for almost 3 years and no pregnancy or losses.
Really appreciate your input on this Smile
