Want to TTC but smear due in April 21

We want to start TTC but as the title suggests my smear test is due April 2021.

My last one was April 2018 and came back clear, I’ve never had an abnormal result. I don’t have any concerning symptoms but I’m aware that I could still have an abnormal result without symptoms. The chance of something being wrong seems unlikely but you just never know do you.

Should I wait for my smear test or just start trying? Other option is to pay for one but I’m looking at over £200.

I’d be interested to hear if anyone else was in this position and what you decided to do. Thanks!

Definitely start TTC. You can still have smears in your follicular stage so if you haven't conceived by April you can still have it then - and if you catch immediately you're only delaying the smear by a few months.

To put it in perspective, I started TTC in Jan and am still here - my smear was in Sep and imagine if I'd waited until then to start! I'd be kicking myself so hard.

I had a similar dilemma last month as my smear is booked for end of this month. I rang gp surgery and explained I was ttc to see if they would do it slightly earlier for me after my period finished in September just incase I fell this month. They refused and said you can't book them early. And now I've just found out I'm pregnant! I've done some googling and from what I can tell if you've had a clear smear and negative for hpv the risks are extremely tiny. Some countries actually go 5 years between tests under these circumstances (and from what I've read the UK have considered similar now hpv testing has been introduced) so I'm feeling slightly reassured now. My smear will be over a year overdue now so I really wouldn't worry if yours isn't due until April anyway. Hope that helps 💐
