Am I having a chemical pregnancy?

I am now 14dpo. I first tested 10dpo and got a very faint frer. By 11dpo it was clear and definitely bfp.
12,13 and this morning the line was just the same and no darker. I got a positive digital clear blue today also. However I just did a first response rapid result and it’s barely even a visible line :(
I know I have tested like crazy but be kind - I had a late loss earlier this year. My anxiety is crazy and I’m now convinced this pregnancy is going to end. What should I do? Would gp help me?

Hi lovely,

So sorry to hear about your earlier loss! I've just had a CP so I fully understand how stressed you may feel. Mine were positive for all of 2 days at 9dpo-11dpo but always very faint. One positive digi and then negative digi the next day and continued to get even fainter!

I'll attach a photo of my test strips to show just how faint they had been, the positive digi which then followed by negative the very next day!

I think it's a good sign you've had a positive digital test at 14dpo! I would recommend calling the doctor or the early pregnancy unit and explain you've had a lot of positive test and want your bloods checking to ensure the HCG is rising for peace of mind

Keeping everything crossed for you xx

Rapid Result have a MUCH higher threshold than FRER. Can you get another early response test and try again tomorrow or day after? You should definitely get progression if things are heading in right direction. FX for you.

GinaG678 · 13/10/2020 20:55

@GanderousGoose the thing is though I did the rapid result 2 days ago and it was showing a clear line :( so I’m thinking that this is indicating it’s not looking good considering that is the one that picks up a higher hormone.
Just don’t understand why digital would be positive. I’m absolutely beside myself with worry as it was such a big emotional rollercoaster to even see a positive test after losing so far into pregnancy last time. Do you think gp is likely to agree to bloods? Afraid they’ll say wait it out :( I also don’t think I can go into work tomorrow as I’m just so stressed so feel I have to tell my boss and explain and hope they’ll be understanding given what’s happened us recently

I'd definitely speak to your GP for a sick note possibly and also with having a late loss previously they should be more helpful I'd imagine x

GinaG678 · 13/10/2020 21:16

@TTCbabyx sorry this happened to you. My tests have been clearly positive I’ve don’t mostly frers but had the digital on 12dpo then today as well which is confusing. I just have a gut feeling that this isn’t going to end well :( it feels like another loss x

Hi there
Do you mind if I follow this? I'm sorry @GinaG678 I don't have any advice for you although I rang my local GP to get blood work and they would which was annoying 😣 I think yours sounds more promising than mine! I do drink quite a lot of water during the day (probably 3 to 4L) which my best friend said to cut back a bit. So will see how I get on tomorrow at 13dpo. I just want answers I don't want to wait. But these line should be darker shouldn't they? first positive at 10dpo with faint line I'm still 4 days away from my period
Thanks everyone xx

Sorry typo GP wouldn't do blood test.

GinaG678 · 14/10/2020 07:17

So I took another digital and frer this am. The digital still says 1-2 pregnant. The frer is just the same colour as my other lines have been for the past 5 days.
I’m beside myself with worry. It’s stressing me so much. I can see the lines are not progressing and I just know this won’t stick :( I’m gutted but feel I know the doctor won’t help me and will say wait it out which is just going to add to my stress!
When is it a chemical pregnancy and when is it a miscarriage?

kirinm · 14/10/2020 07:39

Sorry you're going through this. A chemical pregnancy is a miscarriage - loss before 5 weeks. I don't think I've ever heard the term used my medical staff, they'll always say miscarriage.

I think with your history, the GP or, if you can self refer to the EPU, they may take bloods to try and give you some reassurance. I've had multiple miscarriages and have in the past been able to have bloods taken.

Fingers crossed this sticks for you.

GinaG678 · 14/10/2020 07:55

Thank you @kirinm I’ll see what they say and could always try epu and explain. I hope so too but I have a bad feeling about it all :( I only ever thought chemical pregnancy you wouldn’t get a positive digital but can see from stories online that you do :(

OP posts:
unicornpower · 14/10/2020 11:18

Definitely try the EPU, if you can't self refer then see if your GP will refer you because of your history. I'm sorry you're feeling so low. I had a 1-2 weeks on a digi with my early loss and a week later it was negative. i totally understand your worry and its such a horrid thing to have to go through. Sending you lots of love xx

GinaG678 · 14/10/2020 11:38

@unicornpower sadly no one is willing to help me. I’ve been onto both gp and epu the best they can offer is a scan at 6 weeks. Deep down I know this isn’t going to stay but I feel so traumatised and it’s more than I feel I can take after all I’ve gone through this year. I’m just waiting for it to end now. I have no confidence in my body or any tests anymore. I just want it to be over If it’s going to be, and so annoyed that I allowed myself to hope

Hi @GinaG678 try to take it day by day. The best thing you can do for your little bean right now is to be in the best mental state that you can be. Your fainter test may have been caused by drinking too much and diluting your wee. It may have just been an off test. I know it is impossible not to worry, but try to be kind to yourself x

Waiting4another · 14/10/2020 11:49

Also if you are now 15 dpo you are 4 weeks + 1 day and can have your 6 week scan pretty soon. Don’t forget that the digital tests tell you how many weeks post ovulation you are, but a pregnancy is counted from your LMP

Waiting4another · 14/10/2020 11:54

@TTCbabyx very early and very faint positives can also be caused by corpus luteum cysts, which are fairly common and mostly harmless

TTCbabyx · 14/10/2020 12:16

Digi tests are very sensitive compared to FRER, so it's good that you're still getting positive digi test!

My sister didn't get a positive until 4 weeks AFTER her missed period and My nephew is a healthy 7 year old!

I know people say don't stress and it's a lot easier said than done but try to keep positive as stress won't help, I truly everything crossed for you x

TTCbabyx · 14/10/2020 12:17

So you have a photo of the FRER tests at all?x

GinaG678 · 14/10/2020 12:21

This is only a few as I’ve done so many! But it’s a general idea of what they’re like. The top ones are 11dpo and last is this am fmu. The second last is yesterday evening on rapid results which is barely visible.

Waiting4another · 14/10/2020 12:27

All your tests look like they have good lines, except the second from the bottom, but that looks a weird test - it doesn’t have the Pregnant / Not Pregnant results explanation where all the others do? Could be a dodgy one?

Waiting4another · 14/10/2020 12:29

Oh just saw that one is a rapid results one - those are less sensitive than early results, so that may be why that one is lighter?

TTCbabyx · 14/10/2020 12:40

Oh yes I agree with Waiting4Another - I think they're good lines!🤞🏻

GinaG678 · 14/10/2020 12:54

@Waiting4another that’s a first response rapid result which requires higher hcg concentration. I did it on Saturday and it was a clear line so that’s not good

OP posts:
GinaG678 · 14/10/2020 12:54

Sorry just saw your comment - yea that’s it :(

OP posts:
GinaG678 · 14/10/2020 12:58

This is the comparison between the rapid results ones. Clear reduction in the line. Convinced it’s going to be over

Waiting4another · 14/10/2020 13:55

I understand why you are concerned, the comparison does not look great, but there is definitely a clear line on both, so the fainter test could still be from more diluted wee. Fingers crossed it is a good outcome for you x
