Currently on CD17, predicted day of ovulation was Friday however have been getting flashing smileys for 7 days now

Have been buying ran out of my first pack and then only bought a 10 pack as I thought my static smiley would show up soon, now I have had to buy another pack!!!!

Wondering if I could’ve missed the peak with the change in tests as you get a new thing to put your stick in each pack (unsure of the name) or if this is normal and you can get a static smiley after 7 days

Our first month of trying and this is making me consider throwing out all ovulation tests and just DTD every other day!

Bumping this

I've used these many many times. I usually get a smiley after 4-5 days of flashing but a couple of months ago I got one on day 10.

Honestly? I would advise ditching them and dtd 2-3 times a week (more if you feel like it, obviously!)

Daffodil21 · 12/10/2020 09:26

Also just to add - never change the holder mid cycle as the holder will 'remember' your baseline levels. So if you need more sticks don't use the holder in your new box, use the one you were already using

milknosugar97 · 12/10/2020 09:43

@Daffodil21 think this may be the issue this month! Started testing with 4 left in my box, got a new pack, blank smiley one night then flashing from there!

Stupidly I’ve used 2 on some days so I’ve only got 2 left and have had to order another pack which by the sounds of it means I’ll get blank and flashing again!

Didn’t know it affected it that much but I agree with you, going to throw these away I think and just DTD every other day or frequently in the week!

My partner noticed how it’s got me down and just reminded me this isn’t helping and it’s only our first month trying, shouldn’t let clear blue get to me like this!!! Lmao

I had to buy 3 boxes (two of them had 20 in) when I had the weird cycle that flashed for 10 days. I was also testing twice a day because I didn't want to miss my surge. Every blank/continuous flashing is so depressing and then when I finally got a static I was so happy I had to remind myself it wasn't a positive pregnancy test 😂

If they stress you out just ditch them. I'm currently pregnant (very early) and decided to ditch the OPKs last month. We even skipped a couple of days (had planned to dtd every other day throughout) and that didn't make any difference, we still conceived. The first time we conceived (not successful) I had also decided to ditch the tracking. As long you're dtd regularly, you'll be fine

milknosugar97 · 12/10/2020 10:16

@Daffodil21 they are just so stressful arent they! I didn’t realise changing holders meant blank smiley first test so when I did change I had a stressful night which obviously didn’t help me!

I had EWCM around my predicted day of ovulation, some one sided pains (which I put down to ovulation) and sex drive was a bit up but being busy with work I didn’t feel I had time to be overly in the mood, but it was more than normal, so I’m assuming I’ve ovulated! Might try and cancel this order

And wow a big congratulations to you lovely! Amazing news, thank you for your advice!

Hiya,
I had a similar thing. Long explanation, but I hope it helps.. I had to read the box in great detail to work it out.

The flashing smiley indicates oestrogen, but you have to remember it isn’t looking for a specific amount, it is looking for an increase in the level. (so it could be going from very low to slightly less low).

So you will never get a flashing smiley on the first day because it’s just getting a baseline.
You must start the first stick with a first morning wee.

If you didn’t use your first morning wee on the first day, it will measure low, and if you have a strong morning wee the next day it will think there has been an increase and start flashing (even if there hasn’t been a real increase - it’s just because it’s a stronger wee)

Once it flashes, it will not give you a blank face again.. you will always get the flashing face (until you get the static peak one). So if you messed up on your first wee, you won’t know if you can trust the flashing faces.

It’s probably best to ignore the flashing faces and wait for the static one. This measures a different hormone, and is looking for an actual amount (not an increase or decrease).

It can be a long and stressful road (hopefully it won't be for you!), so try and make it as stress free as possible. It's taken us almost two years to get to this point including 2 losses, and there no guarantees about this one either. Along the way I have literally felt like I was going mad at points, particularly during the tww. I found MN to be very helpful though to feel like I wasn't alone, so do reach out for support when you need it!

Gunpowder · 12/10/2020 10:36

I’d buy the internet cheapie opks. It’s straightforward (in that it’s only positive if the second line is stronger) and if you keep the strips you can see the second line getting stronger and stronger and then fade.

Once I was confused by two apparent LH surges a couple of days apart. I assumed one test must have been faulty and DTD both times. This resulted in twins, so adopt this method at your peril!

milknosugar97 · 12/10/2020 10:47

@Daffodil21 I’m so sorry for your losses Flowers wishing you a healthy and happy pregnancy with a healthy and happy rainbow baby!

It’s our first month hopefully won’t be too many months trying! But I don’t have anyone to ask TTC advice from so coming here is helpful as I’ve never tried for a baby and don’t know what to do/avoid!

@JemimaTiggywinkle when I changed packs my first wee was at night! And was blank,

So could this screw up the results majorly? As previously mentioned on the thread I had some ovulation symptoms on my predicted day! So don’t know if I’ve had my surge and it’s been missed?

OP posts:
milknosugar97 · 12/10/2020 10:49

@Gunpowder thank you! I’ve got some which I used last week, the LH line has gotten a bit darker but today looks lighter! Which along with my symptoms last week is making me believe I have had my peak and missed it

@milknosugar97 I got 8 days of flashing smileys this month before getting a solid smiley CD17. It drove me mad too, but the solid did come! Good luck x

milknosugar97 · 13/10/2020 10:30

Hello everyone, quick update here. Turns out I was being majorly impatient as I got my static smiley last night!

The wave of relief I feel is huge, thank you all for your lovely advice!

Let the TTC continue (stress free now though!)
