Acupuncture for fertility issues...anyone tried it?

I have my first session booked for later this month and just wondered what to expect from it.

My main issue seems to be my age (38) and the fact my eggs are of poorer quality. I seem to be able to get pregnant, but they don’t stick.

Also, although my fertility consultant didn’t say it was an issue, I have much lighter periods now than I did before my first mc in January.

Anyone that’s had it, do they just try to treat one main issue? Can they treat multiple things?

Where do the needles go? And does it hurt?

Thank you!

Hi there, I have been having acupuncture on/off since start of the year. I have a new acupuncturist who is great, all very bespoke, she writes a lot of stuff down and plans my treatments around my cycle - generally one around 3/4 of cycle and then one more just before ovulation. Whilst needles are in she also does some reflexology and head massage around vagus nerve which is lovely. I had an acupuncturist before who did none of this and was a bit of a crook in my mind!

I have had one cycle with this lady and definitely have noticed positive effects with my digestion. I also got a stronger ovulation - I felt it when I normally don't. My period has also become heavier, less clots and more red, fresh blood.

They can work on any issue - the thinking is any imbalances In the body will effect how fertile you are. The kidneys and the liver are very important in fertility so they need to functioning well.

Your acupuncturist might also recommend herbs or give them directly. They might also suggest foods to eat. And generally chat to you and be interested in you - definitely a therapy.

The actual therapy is very blissful. You feel in a very relaxed state, you just close your eyes and try to switch off. Sometimes you can feel the needles going in but only momentarily. Most the time not at all. Your acupuncturist may wiggle them a bit. Early on in the cycle they will be trying to correct any imbalances concentrating usually on a specific organ or pattern. Then before ovulation it will be all about channelling the Qi to your uterus and ovaries.

They will check your pulse and want to look at your tongue, they will ask you a lot of questions about your health top to toe, about your period blood, about your poop, mood, energy levels - so they will know a lot about you by the end of it! They will ask about your partner and might also suggest it for them too.

I am on cycle two will my new acupuncturist so fingers crossed! I love how it makes me feel, definitely helps with stress, obviously a baby would be a massive bonus!
