Mini pill - withdrawal bleed 7 weeks after or period?

Hello Everyone,

Wondering if anyone could help. I took my last mini pill on 23rd August and up until Friday night I have had no withdrawal bleed.

Is it common to have the withdrawal bleed nearly 7 weeks after finishing the pill?
Late at around midnight on Friday I started bleeding it was pinky colour and then went brownish. It was only present when I wiped. I put on a towel expecting to wake up to full flow on Saturday however it remained very dark brown again overnight last night no flow and still wiping and it’s very dark brown in colour however no leakage into the towel.

Is this my first period or is it a withdrawal bleed. I have had pms symptoms of sore boobs and am cramping in the low abdomen area.

Anyone who has came off the mini pill with similar experiences? I last had a period around 15 years ago so can’t really remember what they were like.

Have you been TTC? If so I'd recommend a pregnancy test just to rule that out.

It's very unlikely to be your withdrawal bleed. That's literally triggered by the drop in hormones once you stop taking hormonal contraception.

So it's more likely to be the beginning of your first period. But it sounds like an unusual period so I think it'd be a good plan to rule out pregnancy.

Yes I’m TCC but think it’s to early to do a test as not really sure at the moment if I’m actually ovulating. We DTD fri night early hours sat morning, sun, mon and weds which to me if I conceived sat then it could be implantation bleeding but who knows think I will have to wait a week to be sure

Hey, I don't know if this helps but I came off the mini-pill at the beginning of June and I didn't have my first proper bleed until 3 months later. I counted this as my first period but I'm as equally confused as you and could be wrong. Waiting to see when my next one arrives now! Before that, I had regular spotting (light brown stuff as you describe) every two weeks.

@ineedchocolateandanap have you been ovulating during the period since you came off the pill?

I know, it's both confusing and frustrating. I just want my body to get into some sort of regular cycle so I at least know where I am. I'm sure you feel the same! I haven't experienced any symptoms of ovulation so I don't even think I'm ovulating again yet.

@Moocher90 the same thing happened to me. I came off Cerazette in May and had a weird bleed 7 weeks later. I still don't know if it was a withdrawal bleed or a period but I did go on to have a proper period the following month.
