40 and overweight- what to prioritise?

So I've just had an MC at 8 weeks. And have been reading that fertility can be high immediately after. I am 40 so feel like I don't have the luxury of time. BUT I am also overweight. So I was hoping to get people's views on whether it would be best to try straight away given fertility and age? Or wait and try to lose weight before trying again.

I am only considering things at the moment and all depends on how I physically and mentally recover from the MC but would really welcome some advice.

I’m sorry for your loss. I had a late miscarriage last month at 16 weeks (my fourth mc) and I’m also 40, so I feel your pain.

When I had my second mc, I got pregnant the following month, so based on my experience, I’d say try again as soon as you’re able. I’d also use the time to be as healthy as possible - waiting till you hit the perfect weight doesn’t make sense but no reason why you can’t make changes to be more healthy starting today.

I'm sorry for you losses, both to @dippyGirl5 and @greytminds.

I completely agree with @greytminds though. You don't say how overweight you are OP, but unless you have any health issues as a result of it that are giving you pause for thought then I'd prioritise TTC over waiting till your ideal weight.

It's definitely a good idea to start making healthier choices now so that if you don't fall pregnant for a while then you're already trending towards a healthier weight.

Thank you both for replying!! And I'm very sorry for your losses @greytminds!

I think I agree. Right now, as I wait for what I hope is a final scan next week, I want to be anything but healthy! I need to be though...and I will be! Thank you both x

At 40 I wouldn't wait, you can carry a child overweight, granted it ups the chance of having some problems but your fertility is only going to go in one direction after 40.

I miscarried earlier in the year at 7 weeks and then got pregnant right away again at 37 (I'm 20 weeks today, all fine). I've no idea if there's any truth in you being more fertile right after as we've always managed to catch first time, but I did the same thing googling fertility after a miscarriage. I wouldn't wait either way, assuming you are ok mentally to carry on trying, I'd go for it.
